# Question 1

Cycling offers a huge opportunity to reduce motor traffic and free up road space. Do you have any suggestions for additional cycling promotion activities that the Council could do?

Mike DIXON
(Liberal Democrat)

This candidate has contacted the Campaign in response to the survey but has not given permission to make the response public.

Timothy James HAIRE
(Conservative Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.
Gregory Michael PATTON
(Green Party)

Both the City and County Councils should be involved in freeing more space for dedicated cycle lanes.

Lucy Ann SHEERMAN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 2

Cambridge suffers from a huge shortage of on-street public cycle parking, and a staggeringly high rate of cycle theft - 10% of reported crime. We want to see a formal strategy to get on-street cycle parking provided around Cambridge, with a target of say, 100-200 spaces per year initially. Do you support this?

Mike DIXON
(Liberal Democrat)

This candidate has contacted the Campaign in response to the survey but has not given permission to make the response public.

Timothy James HAIRE
(Conservative Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.
Gregory Michael PATTON
(Green Party)

A large number of my friends have been victim to cycle theft and so I know it is a major worry for myself and many other Cambridge residents. I would like to see the council put pressure on developers to ensure adequate cycle parking space as well as adopting a strategy to provide more street cycle parking.

Lucy Ann SHEERMAN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 3

Do you support our view that traffic policing (including fining of cyclists without lights or using pedestrian-only pavements) should become a police priority?

Mike DIXON
(Liberal Democrat)

This candidate has contacted the Campaign in response to the survey but has not given permission to make the response public.

Timothy James HAIRE
(Conservative Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.
Gregory Michael PATTON
(Green Party)

Traffic policing should be in place to ensure that all users of the road and pavement can feel confident and safe. I support the view therefore that traffic policing should be a priority. However in return I believe the council has a responsibility to ensure that effective provisions are in place for cyclists to reduce the desire to use pedestrian-only pavements. I believe that traffic policing priorities should be based on a desire to reduce significant accidents. Therefore in some instances fining of dangerous cyclists should be a priority in other circumstances other policies would be more beneficial, including better education of cyclists, improved provisions for cyclists and ensuring motor vehicles also obey laws.

Lucy Ann SHEERMAN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 4

Following the remarkable success of 20 mph zones in Hull, we wish to see many more 20 mph zones around Cambridge for both safety and environmental reasons. Do you support this objective?

Mike DIXON
(Liberal Democrat)

This candidate has contacted the Campaign in response to the survey but has not given permission to make the response public.

Timothy James HAIRE
(Conservative Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.
Gregory Michael PATTON
(Green Party)

20mph hour zones are an effective way of improving safety and local environment and so I support this objective.

Lucy Ann SHEERMAN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 5

Some cyclists have told us they feel unsafe riding alongside two short stretches of Lensfield Road and East Road where car parking is allowed in spite of the heavy traffic. Such car parking narrows the space available considerably. Do you support removal of this car parking in the interests of improved traffic flow and the safety of cyclists?

Mike DIXON
(Liberal Democrat)

This candidate has contacted the Campaign in response to the survey but has not given permission to make the response public.

Timothy James HAIRE
(Conservative Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.
Gregory Michael PATTON
(Green Party)

In principle yes

Lucy Ann SHEERMAN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 6

The South East Cycle Route is an important route for cyclists which joins the city centre with the Station. In recent years, its utility has been worsened by extensive car parking being allowed on Regent Terrace (close to Queen Anne car park), and the botched Gonville crossing. Would you press to see these problems fixed?

Mike DIXON
(Liberal Democrat)

This candidate has contacted the Campaign in response to the survey but has not given permission to make the response public.

Timothy James HAIRE
(Conservative Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.
Gregory Michael PATTON
(Green Party)

I would certainly press for these problems to be fixed. Both these issues are important and I would be involved in trying to fix these problems

Lucy Ann SHEERMAN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 7

Do you have any other general cycling-related comments or points?

Mike DIXON
(Liberal Democrat)

This candidate has contacted the Campaign in response to the survey but has not given permission to make the response public.

Timothy James HAIRE
(Conservative Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.
Gregory Michael PATTON
(Green Party)

I would like to see the Council get involved in the various colleges to promote safe and responsible cycling by providing information about cycling in Cambridge. At present very little is done to ensure that cyclists know about the one way system, for instance, in the city centre.

Lucy Ann SHEERMAN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.
