The scene greeting visitors to Cambridge on their way from the railway station. An acute lack of secure cycle parking leads to bikes parked insecurely to the wooden railing, with the result of this vandalism.
These parasol type hanging \'designer\' cycle parking, known as \'meathooks\', were so unpopular they were replaced after only a few months.
What happens when there's not enough cycle parking: people park several spaces abreast, and bikes fall over. In this case, this is done to excess. And so bikes end up in the path of passing vehicles, with wheels being flattened.
Opportunistic cyclists use the skip as a temporary place to park while visiting the pub opposite.
Inadequate cycle parking at Tesco, Newmarket Road. Note: There is a fundamental problem with the design of these particular 'toastracks'. The rails on the toast-rack are spaced such that one of the bike wheels has to 'sit' on the top of ... [more]
This is an area of high levels of cycle theft. Yet not a single cycle parking stand is available, despite literally hundreds of insecure bikes being left against walls. Car parking on the opposite site of the road should be selectively remo ... [more]
Nowhere to park bikes here (officially), but such an obvious need, and there\'s plenty of space.
Hopeless wheelbender cycle parking! The front wheel was locked to the rack, but the rest of the bike has gone. Often a front wheel of another bike will have been purloined to make up a whole bike.
Cycle racks at entrance to Coton Countryside Reserve from Coton footpath / cycleapth. Very poor surface and difficult access through gate (out of sight) or over horse barrier.
Inconsiderately parked cycles reducing the width of the already narrow path between Devonshire Road and the station.
Cambridge Station car park. This sign shows why the station owners have been so disinterested in providing desperately-needed new cycle parking: because each car parking space (including entry maneouvring space) (equivalent to 10-20 cycles ... [more]
There are some wheel-benders in there somewhere ! Overgrown cycle parking at St Stephen's church hall (blood donor session).
St Mary's Churchyard Park, Elephant and Castle - badly designed and installed cycle stands - a bike at one stand blocks the adjacent one. At rear, Sheffield stands at the leisure centre not used because they're too close to the wall.
Racks set much too close end to end force wheels to overlap. Difficult to park and with risk of damage when extracting. Unforgiveable. Cycle parking is so easy to get right.
Royston seriously lacks cycle parking. Apart from the station, the leisure centre and a few stands at the end of the High St there is NOTHING. The Coombes Community Center, like most public buildings is a obvious candidate where there is ... [more]
Another obvious candidate for cycle parking. Small shops, plenty of space. Needs some stands.
New Rustat Avenue housing - the developers may have thought they were being generous with cycle parking but in fact it's woefully inadequate.
New Rustat Avenue housing - the developers may have thought they were being generous with cycle parking but in fact it's woefully inadequate.
Cycle parking at King's Cross station - clearly insufficient amount, with much more needed.
This is now the nearest cycle parking to the Catholic church (background), with the racks packed and bikes locked to fencing too even when there isn't a service or concert at the church.
All the very useful cycle parking by the Catholic church has vanished at a stroke, because some very petty person has had this wicker put up on the outside of the railings.
'No bikes on post' - clear indication of demand for cycle parking, which Market Ward Councillors need to address.
Bikes insecurely parked at Hills Road 6th Form College. The above photo shows that it would in fact be possible to have on-street cycle parking on one side, at intervals along the street. Cars are currently coping with getting past an ar ... [more]
Proper cycle parking needed in this area - bikes parked on railings for a considerable distance.
Cycles left against the wall, but with full racks there is clear indication of a shortage here that does not meet demand.
Space available under the Riverside Bridge which could be used for covered cycle parking.
A good illustration of why the Grand Arcade Cycle Park needs to be open at night. Not enough space on these railings outside the Soul Tree club, the same location as the 'stolen' Fisher Square cycle parking.
Crossing to Hills Road Sixth-Form College - bikes locked to anything that won't move.
Covered cycle parking, but not enough of it, and the stands themselves are poor quality ones which do not secure the frame.
