National Bike Week

Bike Week is a national, annual promotion run by the bicycle industry, cycling campaign groups and central government to promote cycling in the summer. The week itself is usually held in June, and the historical record below lists the many activities that were organized in the early years of the Campaign. At one of the events a rider passed by and shouted ‘in Cambridge every week is bike week!’. That prompted a shift towards more focussed events aimed at engaging the public in specific challenges facing the Campaign. The main advantage of the promotion is that it provides organisers’ insurance cover for registered events from early April until the end of July. We make use of this in our annual promotion of the Bike ride to Reach Fair on the first bank holiday in May.
