Sat 6 Maintenance Wheel Building Workshop
This is a practical course where you learn how to assemble and true strong and durable bicycle wheels. You will learn to build ‘standard’ (36 spoke cross-3) wheels using proven wheel building techniques based on sound principles. Places are restricted to ensure a high teacher-student ratio. Tue 9 Other Action on Commuting: The Cycle to Work Guarantee
This workshop will provide information to help and inspire organisations to reap the benefits of reducing the impact of commuting & business travel, focussing in particular on cycling to work. Wed 10 Ride Film: “Beauty and the Bike – Why British Girls Don’t Cycle”
In advance of the Ride for Joy on the 20th March. Venue: Small Hall in the Guildhall, Cambridge. The film follows two groups of young women from Darlington and Bremen. Between them, they discover what makes – and stops – teenage girls from cycling. The answer? “It’s the Infrastructure, stupid!” An inspiring film not to be missed! Full details here.

Sat 20 Ride Fashion Cycle Ride
RIDE FOR JOY (redefining joyriding) is a cycle event aimed at, but not exclusively for, women & girls. The idea is to encourage more women and girls to take up cycling as their preferred method of transport in their daily lives by getting those who do currently cycle to join us on a fun ride around the city centre, dressed up stylishly (or down stylishly) as you please. Fashion Cycle Ride to raise awareness of cycling as a normal method of transport in our daily lives and to show that you can cycle in your normal clothes. Targeting women in response to Sustrans’ research last autumn which showed that 79% of women in the UK never cycle. Also building on the growing number of subscribers to ‘cycle chic’ around the world – the only genre of cycling in the UK attracting more female cyclists.

With designer labels such as Dashing Tweeds, Lost Values and Bobbin Bicycles thrown into the mix, ‘I Bike Cambridge’ will be proof that ladies don’t have to reach for the unflattering fluorescent when hitting the road. Sun 5 Fundraiser Ride for Ryder – London to Cambridge Bike Ride
A 60-mile route starting in Finsbury Park, London and finishing at St John’s College, Cambridge. Last year over 50 riders took part and raised over £17,000 for Sue Ryder Care. Read more information online or ring 020 7400 5552.
