Question 17 - we asked:

What are your views on cycling provisions for commuting into Cambridge from Cottenham, Histon and Impington? Are the existing facilities adequate (include reasons)? What do you think should be changed if anything?

We asked this question in these 2 wards: Cottenham, Histon & Impington.

2 of the 9 candidates (22%) who were asked this question responded as below.

Heather Anne MACBETH-HORNETT
(Green Party)

I have cycled home from Cambridge in the dark on a few occasions & it's not a very pleasant experience. The cycle route to Girton is fantastic to use, where it is illuminated & I'd very much like to see a similar provision for lighting for cyclists between Cottenham and Histon/Impington. I am very fortunate to be able to work in Cottenham & usually cycle just under 6 miles a day to and from my jobs there. I also appreciate having local shops so I don't have to travel very far to buy most of my food. It would be wonderful to see safe routes to schools in Cottenham. I have collected over 60 signatures on a petition which I submitted to Cottenham Parish Council, to reduce the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph along Twentypence Road and would like to see the path there widened for dual cycling and pedestrian use. It would be lovely to see the creation of cycle routes throughout the village.

Edd STONHAM
(Liberal Democrat)

I think what is planned is great, I went to a few of the public exhibitions last year for the proposed changes to cycleway between the City and Cottenham and it is good that some of the feedback has been put into the plans. Some of the changed have already happened in Histon and Impington with the replacement of 2 crossings on the B1049
