# Question 1

Do you support our view that traffic policing (including fining of cyclists without lights or using pedestrian-only pavements) should become a greater police priority?

Yes.

# Question 2

We believe that 20mph should be the norm for local streets in residential areas (as distinct from main connecting roads). 20mph would: greatly encourage walking and cycling; improve the quality of life in an area for residents; and would not delay car journeys significantly (because only the start/end of a journey would be affected). Do you agree that 20mph should become the norm for local streets in Cambridge and surrounding villages?

There is a very short 20mph zone around Cottenham Primary School, but I would love to see a 20mph limit extended throughout the village. There is inadequate pedestrian crossing provision throughout Cottenham, a very long village, and it would make sense to have a 20mph limit around the High Street near the Village College as soon as possible. It is very sad that children have to travel by bus from Rampton to Cottenham schools because the cycle and pedestrian paths have been deemed unsafe.

# Question 3

What are your views on cycling provisions for commuting into Cambridge from Cottenham, Histon and Impington? Are the existing facilities adequate (include reasons)? What do you think should be changed if anything?

I have cycled home from Cambridge in the dark on a few occasions & it's not a very pleasant experience. The cycle route to Girton is fantastic to use, where it is illuminated & I'd very much like to see a similar provision for lighting for cyclists between Cottenham and Histon/Impington. I am very fortunate to be able to work in Cottenham & usually cycle just under 6 miles a day to and from my jobs there. I also appreciate having local shops so I don't have to travel very far to buy most of my food. It would be wonderful to see safe routes to schools in Cottenham. I have collected over 60 signatures on a petition which I submitted to Cottenham Parish Council, to reduce the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph along Twentypence Road and would like to see the path there widened for dual cycling and pedestrian use. It would be lovely to see the creation of cycle routes throughout the village.

# Question 4

Do you have any other general cycling-related comments or points? And what support have you given for cycling and walking, or sustainable transport more generally, in the past?

I try to travel in as sustainable way as possible and haven't flown anywhere for many years. Last year I went to France by Eurostar and ferry. As I mentioned earlier, I cycle to and from work. Walking is one of my hobbies and I walked around a small part of the Lake District during the Easter holidays. It would be great if the No 7 bus route could be extended throughout Cottenham as some residents live more than a mile away from the nearest No 7 bus stop to go to Cambridge. It would have made more sense for the old railway to St Ives to have been reused than creating the guided bus route. Rampton residents have complained to me about their poor bus service to Cambridge.
