Now that elections are over the Greater Cambridge City Deal (soon to be Greater Cambridge Partnership) is ramping up again. More than ever, we need the support of our members. Perhaps you can forward this email to someone you think should be a member of Camcycle and suggest they join us to support our work.
Thank you to everyone who took action over the last two weeks to send emails in support of the Chisholm Trail. Every bit of support is vital and we know there will still be more action to take. We will keep members informed with any Chisholm Trail progress.
Another City Deal project is also keeping us busy. Camcycle is working hard with residents from the Milton Road area to ensure that we get a Milton Road with trees and safe cycleways. The City Deal Assembly and Executive Board meetings that will decide the fate for Milton Road are coming up in July. It is vital that we get as much support as possible for the 'Do Optimum' plans. Please sign the petition, contact your local councillors, contact City Deal members and get involved with your local residents' associations to help.
Call to action! Milton Road Alliance petition for cycling and trees
The Camcycle stall bike is joining the Milton Road Alliance at two events: 1 July and 15 July, both in the Market Square from 10 am to 4 pm. There will also be a presentation at the 4 July Camcycle monthly meeting. Come along to any of these to learn more about 'Do-Optimum' for Milton Road.
The two crucial decision-point City Deal meetings for Milton Road are the following:
- Wednesday 19th July, 1 PM: The City Deal Assembly, Council Chamber at South Cambridgeshire Hall, Cambourne.
- Wednesday 26th July, 10 AM: The City Deal Executive Board, Council Chamber at the Guild Hall.
Crashes due to excessive speed on Cambridge Guided Busway?
We're concerned about the number of derailments on the Busway and the danger that they cause to people using the cycling and walking facilities alongside. Camcycle Trustee, Jim Chisholm, recently wrote to the County Council Busway Team to express our concerns about the speed that buses are travelling on the Busway. You can read the letter on our blog and participate in discussions about the issue on Cyclescape 3263

August Monthly meeting
Our guest speaker for our August meeting will be Andrew P. Sykes speaking about his cycling adventures and his latest book 'Spain to Norway on a Bike Called Reggie'.
Andrew P. Sykes is a writer and cyclist. He is also a lover of those quirky, humorous travelogues that meander comically from one minor adventure to the next, and so writing about his own cycling adventures seemed the natural thing for him to do.
When not writing and travelling, Andrew edits a popular cycling website, CyclingEurope.org, where you will find more information about his journeys and cycling and travel in general. For more details, visit apsykes.com, the Cycling Europe on a Bike Called Reggie Facebook page, and follow Andrew on Twitter @CyclingEurope.
August monthly meeting. 1 August, 7.30pm for 8pm start. Friends Meeting House, Jesus Lane.
