Weekly update – 16th June
It's tempting to switch off and enjoy all this sunshine, but we have too much to do!
Now that we are through the elections we have to get back to our local campaigning and this week we need your help!
This week:
- A call to action for the Chisholm Trail
- Milton Road
- New bike repair service wanted
- Summer stall events
A call to action for the Chisholm Trail
Can you spare a few minutes to write an email showing your support for the Chisholm Trail? We've put all the information you need on our blog.
We're asking people to show their support for the widening and realignment of the path on Coldham’s Common as a vital improvement needed for the Chisholm Trail.
Show support for the Chisholm Trail
Milton Road
The plans presented this week by the City Deal fall too far from the principles of the Camcycle and residents associations' 'Do Optimum' proposals (pdf).
Instead of balanced bus priority measures they have opted for more tarmac up and down the entire length of the road. In many places there are unprotected cycle lanes squeezed next to bus lanes. In other places the verge is almost negligible, if at all present, and the trees seem to be almost planted in the cycle lane. The junction designs were modelled without taking people cycling or walking into account, because the chosen modelling software cannot simulate those modes.
You can view the full video and download the presentation of the City Deal's proposal at the Milton Road Alliance website. You can also follow our discussions on Cyclescape 3024.
New bike repair service wanted
Over the years, Cambridge Biomedical Campus has successfully encouraged many of the people who work and visit the site to cycle. With thousands of bikes on the site, the Campus is looking for a new supplier to deliver a full time Bicycle Repair Facility from this summer for the next three years. The new facility should be able to offer repairs, bike sales and the opportunity to book online for appointments. For more information see: http://cambridge-biomedical.com/new-bike-repair-service-wanted/ or email thinkgreen.cuh@addenbrookes.nhs.uk
Summer stall events
We've been working on guidelines to help our event volunteers. You can contribute on Cyclescape 253.
We're also looking for volunteers to help with the following festivals where we are planning to have a stall. Please email if you can join us. You don't need to be an expert in cycling issues, just positive about cycling and the work that Camcycle does.
