Queen Edith’s Way Protected Roundabout Proposed

Camcycle welcomes the consultation that includes plans for a truly protected roundabout on Queen Edith's Way. Junctions like this, giving priority to cyclists and pedestrians, are common practice in The Netherlands. If built this roundabout, as part of the Queen Edith's Way improvement scheme, will help local children cycle to school in safety and will help improve the commute to work for many Addenbrookes staff.

The scheme is also a considerable improvement for pedestrians. The tighter geometry of the proposed roundabout slows cars down when entering and exiting, allowing zebra crossings also to be included that give priority and additional safety for pedestrians. The design also separates walking and cycling, creating space for everybody.

We urge people to respond to the consultation enthusiastically and hope that this is the first of many protected roundabouts to be rebuilt this way in Cambridge
