Wed 21 Subgroup Bike Week 2004 Planning Meeting
A meeting to discuss what we shall be doing this year will be held at Shire Hall Club on Wednesday 21st January from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. www.bikeweek.org.uk. To get to the venue turn into the Shire Hall site from Caste Street / Huntingdon Road at the junction with the Sir Isaac Newton pub. Follow the road straight down over speed bumps until you get to a conservatory area where there is cycle parking. This is Shire Hall Club. We are in a small room that appears to be behind a cloakroom style counter.

An exhibition is being held at the Guildhall, Market Square, of designs submitted for the Riverside Bridge. The evaluation panel, on which the Campaign has a seat, will later judge the designs on 9th March.

Mon 1 Subgroup Riverside Bridge – reviewing the six designs
8pm, at 8 Thirleby Close, Cambridge, CB4 3RS. We will be reviewing the six proposed designs for the new bridge, and considering what questions we would like to be asked at the judging panel. The County Council’s website has photos of the designs.

Sun 14 Ride Leisurely Ride
Meet at 1pm at Hobbs Pavilion on Parker’s Piece. A countryside ride, at a gentle pace. Please bring lights. This Sunday’s ride will be along the Jubilee cycleway, and a loop around through Bottisham, stopping for tea at the cafe at Anglesey Abbey. The total distance is around 10 miles, and it will be at quite a gentle pace. This was the route of the family ride during last year’s Bike Week.

A knowledge of wheelbuilding can be invaluable for anyone who wishes to do their own bike maintenance and repair. Leisurely Cycle Ride to Reach Fair. Leaves Hobbs Pavilion, Parker’s Piece at 10am, expecting to arrive at noon. This is a ride of 10 miles mostly along the Sustrans route, to the traditional village-green fair, opened by the Mayor of Cambridge, with events for all the family – well worth a ride to see. Return at your leisure.

The official opening of the Coldham’s Lane Cycle Bridge takes place at noon.
Tue 8 Maintenance ‘Bicycle Maintenance 2’ evening class
5×2 hour evening classes, 7-9pm. This course builds on the basics and concentrates on other, less-everyday bike maintenance tasks. The emphasis is on building your confidence to look after important areas ofthe bike that usually require attention once or twice a year. This is a practical course where you work on your own bike. You should expect to get your hands dirty, and to have a lot of fun! By the end of the course, you will have enough knowledge and confidence to be able to do your own annual bike servicing.
