Question 1 - we asked:

There is a major shortage of cycle parking all around the city. Cycle theft is over 10% of all reported crime in the County. Do you have any suggestions for locations for cycle parking? Would you be willing to see a very small proportion of on-street car parking being replaced by on-street cycle parking in your ward? How will you progress towards a situation where every resident and every worker in each ward can keep a bike safe?

We asked this question:

As a cyclist I appreciate the importance of appropriately placed and secure cycle parking facilities. I fully support increases in the amount of cycle parking available across the city, especially in areas around shops where there are insufficient spaces and particularly in front of the station where the current situation is a disgrace. I am aware of different forms of parking facilities, including cyclehoops which maximise the use of existing posts, and am glad to hear that these are being introduced across the city. In East Chesterton there are numerous locations such as the Brown’s Field Youth and Community Centre, which provides excellent parking facilities. I would welcome suggestions for other locations where more are needed and could be considered. As for the replacement of some on-street parking with on-street cycle parking this is obviously an issue which varies considerably between wards. As there are fewer residents’ parking zones than in other areas, East Chesterton is, in principle, more suitable for this kind of transfer. Locations would need to be considered case-by-case.
