The road to zero carbon emissions

We were delighted to welcome Tony Eva from Carbon Neutral Cambridge as the guest speaker at our online monthly meeting in July 2020. Streaming live to our Facebook channel, Tony explained how the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough region has a carbon emissions budget of only 15 million tonnes for transport for 2020 onwards. After decades of car-centric policy, the actions we take will need to be fast and radical, from removing cars from all metropolitan areas by 2025 to phasing out Park & Ride and building extensive Greenway cycle routes.

The video of the meeting is now available on YouTube: watch it now to be informed, inspired – and challenged. Tony asked Camcycle members and supporters to consider how seriously they take climate change and the need to get to zero carbon emissions as soon as possible. Do we accept the radical actions that will need to be taken to help us meet the required carbon emissions targets? What are we willing to do to make them happen?

The next Camcycle meeting will be held online on Tuesday 4 August, where representatives from some local campaign groups will share their ways of working and inspire others to get involved. Find out more about this and other Camcycle events on our events page.
