Camcycle communications and you

From today, Friday 25 May 2018, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into law and governs how we can contact our members and supporters. One of the aims of the regulation is to give citizens more control over their data and privacy.

In submitting an application form, our members have already given us consent to store some of their personal data and to contact them. Some of this data and contact is essential to manage memberships and to fulfil our obligations to members, for example, to process financial transactions and to send membership renewal reminders. Other communications are required to fulfill our duties to members, for example, sending copies of Camcycle magazine and notifying members of our AGM. Likewise, if members or supporters make additional donations to Camcycle, there may be additional data we need to hold and communications that we need to send in order to process and acknowledge these donations.

As part of our membership package, we also send out regular email newsletters (unless members have told us they do not want to receive them). These include updates on cycling issues, promotion of our cycling campaigning activities, news about our organisation, promotion of volunteering opportunities and information about fundraising appeals. We may also occasionally send emails with specific campaigning actions or fundraising appeals. To ensure we are compliant with GDPR we have updated Camcycle's privacy policy; this gives more details about what data we keep, how we process it, how we keep it safe and the rights of our members and supporters.
