Camcycle supports the Chisholm Trail phase one planning application

We have submitted our response in favour of the Chisholm Trail phase one planning application. The consultation period closes today and we urge those who have not already done so to submit a response expressing their support for this vital cycling and walking route. You can learn more about the application and why it is so important and find out how to respond at www.camcycle.org.uk/action

You can download our response to the consultation which reads:

Cambridge Cycling Campaign strongly supports both the Abbey/Chesterton cycle & foot bridge (C/5005/16/CC ) and phase one of the Chisholm Trail (C/5007/16/CC).

This route should enable many who currently drive to leave their car at home and hence make Cambridge a more pleasant place for all.

Half of all Cambridge residents cycle at least once a month. They represent a huge number of people who will benefit from the trail, a number that far exceeds the few people who oppose the trail and whose concerns we believe have been duly considered in the plans.

This safe and segregated cycling and walking route will provide better access to a number of public spaces including Ditton Meadows, the Leper Chapel and Coldhams Common. It will provide a convenient and safe route to access the Cambridge and Cambridge North stations.

To tackle the increasing problems of congestion, poor air quality and health issues due to inactivity we must be doing all we can to encourage active travel. There are few transport schemes in the City Deal pipeline that could have as much impact on these issues as the Chisholm Trail.

We urge all involved in this process to support the Chisholm Trail and we expect to be included as a key stakeholder throughout the process.
