Abbey-Chesterton bridge – our view
The county council’s consultation on the proposed bridge closes shortly — you can respond until 28th July. Here are the key points from our full response:
- We fully support a foot and cycle bridge in this location. This is the best way to reduce motor vehicle congestion in this area
- It should be situated as close as possible to the existing railway bridge, on the desire line for people travelling on foot or bike
- The truss design is preferred; the others will be more complex and visually intrusive
- This is a key route which will carry high levels of both pedestrian and cycle traffic. Adequate width is essential (a minimum total width of 6m)
- We believe there is scope to improve access to the bridge on both the northern and southern ends
