In response to complaints about a lorry loading outside the ‘Rat and Parrot’, we did some cycle counts.
Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2006
Weather: rainy
A 4-bank tally counter was used. Both pedestrians and cyclists were counted over a half hour period from 08:40 to 09:10 who passed down or up Downing St outside the Cambridge Building Society.
In only 30 minutes:
Total cyclists: 475
Total pedestrians: 320
The PEAK 5 mins for cyclists was 09:00-09:05 with 119 cyclists all but 13 of who entered Downing Street.
This equates to a flow rate of over 1250 cyclists per hour.
For Peds the peak 5 mins was 08:50-08:55 with 77 peds and all but 8 were entering Downing St.
