Cambridge East (Marshall’s Airport)

Overview / latest news

More information will be online shortly.

Cambridge East

Location: This is the land currently occupied by Marshall’s Airport and the Newmarket Road Park and Ride site.

Number of dwellings: 10,000 – 12,000 homes – 30,000 people. 80% residential.

Issues: Newmarket Road. Idea is to have a transport hierarchy that places pedestrians first, cyclists second, followed by public transport, emergency vehicles and lastly the private car.

Status: Area Action Plan adopted February 2008. It is not thought likely that building work will take place before 2016.

Opposed by the Labour group on Cambridge City Council, who have been pushing for a development at Waterbeach instead. However, all the plan making processes and inspections and enquiries controlled by the government have approved Cambridge East and rejected Waterbeach.
