Cambridge police are warning cyclists not to carry handbags in their bike baskets after a series of snatches in the city.

The most common method used in the thefts is for offenders to ride alongside victims before snatching their handbag and cycling off.

Police are particularly concerned that the thefts pose a safety threat to the victims, who could fall off their bikes.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information on bike thefts, or any other crime, to contact the Local Intelligence Unit at Parkside Police Station on 01223 358966.
