Bicycle Art Competition

A showcase of artwork (painting, collage, sculpture, etc.) connected in some way to bicycles or cycling.

Exhibition

At the central library, Lion Yard Cambridge from 28 May – 6 June. On display were entries to the Art Competition, bicycle curios and more about the work of Cambridge Cycling Campaign. Highlights of the exhibition can be viewed at the Environmental Resources room in the Guildhall during bike week, and again during the month of July.

Despite competing with an important football match the Dr Bikers were kept very busy inspecting a range of new and old bicycles. Two constables were on hand to do Security Coding of bikes.

For those of you who had their bikes examined discounts are offered at (but please take your Dr Bike form with you):

  • Ben Hayward Cycles, Trumpington Street is offering 10% discount on parts.
  • The Bike Shop, Arbury Court Cambridge is offering 10% discount on parts, labour, accessories and even a new bike.
  • Drakes, Hills Road offering 10% discount on parts and labour for Dr Bike
  • The Bikeman, (Market Square Mon-Thurs) is to offer 5% discount on parts.

Three Rides to the Children’s Festival, Jesus Green

The rides took place on Saturday, 15th June at 12 noon
Starting from:

  1. The playground in Dudley Rd, Fen Ditton.
  2. Outside the Golden Hind pub on Milton Road
  3. On Cherry Hinton High St. on the corner of Chelwood Road.

Try-out Show

Sunday 16 June, 10am – 4pm Parker’s Piece

A perfect venue and a perfect day for this fun event. We reckon we had about 500 people attend. Dave Earl took the following photos.

The following bikes were available:

  • Sound and PA system built into a bike trailer
  • Pino Tandem recumbent child’s position on front
  • Conventional Tandem
  • Pashley Tube Rider Cruiser or Phat chopper bike
  • One city bike pulling child trailer
  • City bike
  • At least 2 recumbents
  • Several folding bikes
  • High quality city bikes
  • The ZEM five seater – on which we had four policemen!
  • There were also bikes for children including a challenging micro-tandem.

And some very popular tandems and transporter bikes were provided by www.dutchbike.co.uk. H Drake provided quality city bikes which many people enjoyed.
