# Question 1

What challenges do people face in your area that prevent them from cycling, especially children and those using cycling as a mobility aid? How should cycling and walking infrastructure in your area be improved so that people of all ages and abilities would feel safe cycling there?

Gavin George Rodney BOOTH
(Liberal Democrat)

There are limited dedicated cycling routes in the villages and into town. Dedicated cycle tracks would improve the access into town, where the roads are busy. Also improving the state of the roads for all users would improve safety.

Ruth Margaret JOHNSON
(Green Party)

I recently won a national award for promoting sustainable travel. The main obstacles are lack of cycle lanes and fast traffic. I have recently engaged with Fenland Diatrict Council and asked them to create cycle routes through all towns and villages to every school. I have also been campaigning for 20mph in residential areas since 2015.

Simon John Edward KING
(Conservative Party)

Fear of traffic - so more off road facilities are needed

Chris MOUNTAIN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 2

Transport is the largest source of UK carbon dioxide emissions (34%). Physical inactivity is responsible for one in six UK deaths. What role do you think cycling can play in tackling the urgent climate and health crises we face?

Gavin George Rodney BOOTH
(Liberal Democrat)

Cycling can help people lead healthier lives and reduce the need for using cars.

Ruth Margaret JOHNSON
(Green Party)

Cycling (and other sustainable methods of transport) impacts the air quality of our locality. The more people cycle, the better our air quality. Cycling has many benefits: improves health, wellness, air quality and for children, it embeds healthy habits for life. Promoting sustainable travel in schools meets PSHE and SMSC cuurriculum.

Simon John Edward KING
(Conservative Party)

Increasing cycling is essential for improving health and tackling climate change

Chris MOUNTAIN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 3

Safe and responsible use of the roads is a major issue. Our view is that traffic policing, of all groups of road users (cyclists, drivers, etc.), should become a greater police priority, and that this should be evidence-based, namely based on the relative levels of danger presented by each such group. What are your thoughts, and where would your priorities be?

Gavin George Rodney BOOTH
(Liberal Democrat)

I have been campaigning for road safety measures for several years and believe more needs to be done in this area. As a District Councillor I have raised on numerous occasions the point that Road Safety should be a policing priority.

Ruth Margaret JOHNSON
(Green Party)

More speed awareness equipment needs to be deployed and police should conduct more speed checks. I am a volunteer for March Speedwatch group and have conducted many speedwatch sessions over the last 2 years

Simon John Edward KING
(Conservative Party)

I agree with the position paper

Chris MOUNTAIN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 4

What do you think should be done to enable more children to walk and cycle safely to school? How can the county support more school communities to implement School Street schemes?

Gavin George Rodney BOOTH
(Liberal Democrat)

I believe more road safety measures around schools need to be introduced, such as 20mph limits at school times, infrastructure, etc. Also, the introduction of more walking buses to school will improve the health of children. Also, the provision of more cycle racks is a simple practical measure that can be taken to enable children to ride to school.

Ruth Margaret JOHNSON
(Green Party)

Cycle routes to all schools should be created and sustainable travel should be promoted in all schools. I am a mentor for the Junior Travel Ambassador scheme run by Ccc and there are limited places. This scheme shoild be available to all schools across the county. We have successfully reduced car travel by 50% in the last 2 years. School Streets is a great scheme and protects children.

Simon John Edward KING
(Conservative Party)

I support this initiative as I was a member of the Committee

Chris MOUNTAIN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 5

How important is it for every rural village to have at least one safe and accessible off-road path for people walking and cycling, connecting to the growing network of such routes in the county? What action should be taken to enable everyone in the county to have access to the cycling network?

Gavin George Rodney BOOTH
(Liberal Democrat)

I feel this is very important and we should be publicising the existing network of footpaths, byways & bridleways wider to encourage more use. Interactive maps and easy access to information on the cycling network would improve awareness and use.

Ruth Margaret JOHNSON
(Green Party)

It is very important that rural villages have access to safe cycle routes. Many rural villages where I live do not have pavements, so it is not safe for either pedestrians or cyclists. Pavements and cycle paths should be available in every town and village in the country

Simon John Edward KING
(Conservative Party)

Essential - although the lack of rights of way in this area of the county presents a challenge. I am currently working with colleagues to improve an existing route

Chris MOUNTAIN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.

# Question 6

LTN 1/20 is the government's new cycling design manual, with a focus on inclusivity and accessibility for all. How would you support our call for the county to affirm that they will use LTN 1/20 (and its successor documents) in all current and future schemes related to cycling?

Gavin George Rodney BOOTH
(Liberal Democrat)

I believe the County and District councils should have regard to the LTN when considering infrastructure and planning matters, incorporating design features where it is practical and cost effective to do so.

Ruth Margaret JOHNSON
(Green Party)

I would ensure the LA utilises the funds to ensure everyone has accessibility.

Simon John Edward KING
(Conservative Party)

I support using LTN 1/20

Chris MOUNTAIN
(Labour Party)
The candidate has not responded to the survey.
