Question 9 - we asked:

Do you support rescinding the part-time ban on cycling in Fitzroy Street and Burleigh Street?

We asked this question only in Market.

2 of the 4 candidates (50%) who were asked this question responded as below.

Alexandra COLLIS
(Green Party)

I support rescinding the part-time ban. However, there is currently a safety issue on Burleigh Street due to the works being carried out, and we need also to consider pedestrians in the area. There is currently little room to accommodate cyclists and I feel it is becoming dangerous.

Andrea Curti REINER
(Liberal Democrat)

No. The ban operates at peak times, 10 am – 4 pm. Fitzroy and Burleigh Streets are full of pedestrians at peak times, including the elderly, disabled, children and parents and carers with baby buggies. Fitzroy and Burleigh Streets have no pavement to separate pedestrians from cyclists, and I don’t think they would be safe for pedestrians if they were open for cycling as well during peak times.
