Question 13 - we asked:

We would like to see the Pembroke Street / Mill Lane route becoming the default priority direction at its junction with Trumpington Street. This would enable the high pedestrian and cycle flows to be catered for better. Do you support this idea?

We asked this question only in Market.

2 of the 4 candidates (50%) who were asked this question responded as below.

Alexandra COLLIS
(Green Party)

Yes, I fully support this idea.

Andrea Curti REINER
(Liberal Democrat)

This question identifies a problem area in traffic flow that I know well, as I cycle through there 4 days a week with my children in a trailer. I agree it is a highly dangerous intersection. However I would not support changing the priority there, because Trumpington Road is an important outlet to reduce the flow of traffic at peak times. In the morning rush hour the bollards in Silver Street are opened for eastbound (southbound) travel, and in the afternoons the bollards are opened for westbound (northbound) travel. Changing the priority for Mill Lane/Pembroke Street would eliminate the benefits of opening the bollards and result in paralysing congestion along Queen’s Road/Fen Causeway.
