Weekly update – 30th November

All of a sudden the festive season seems to be upon us. If you're not quite ready for it yet, I do apologise, but I hope you will stick with us as we have so much exciting news to tell you. We have the Christmas Challenge, our AGM, our seasonal social and we are also now selling gift memberships and greetings cards!

Christmas Tree

Festive fun is the only thing that gets me through a cold British winter so I couldn't wait to pick up a tree at the weekend. Last year I managed to strap the tree on the front of my Dutch bike, but with the free Cargo bike hire now available at Homebase, my husband and I thought we would try it out.

I have to admit, he was better on the tricycle than I was, but we managed to get the tree home with ease and with many interested and admiring looks along the way! Hopefully, we inspired a few people to think bigger about what they can carry with a bike.

Double your donation with the Christmas Challenge

We're aiming to raise £5000 through the Big Give Christmas Challenge to support our campaigning work in 2018. Thanks to our generous match funders, any donations made during the Christmas Challenge will be doubled. The Challenge runs from noon 28 November until noon, Tuesday 5 December.

2017 AGM with guest speaker Carlton Reid

Our AGM guest speaker, Carlton Reid, executive editor of 'BikeBiz' magazine and author of 'Roads Were Not Built For Cars', will talk about his 'Lost Cycleways' project.

Many cycle advocates urge that we should create dense grids of protected cycling infrastructure – in other words, Britain should "Go Dutch". It's almost totally unknown that Britain once had the beginnings of such a Netherlands-inspired network. Carlton Reid is on a mission to rediscover this network and, in some cases, literally dig it up. We even have one of these 1930's cycleways in Cambridge. Can you guess where it is?

New Camcycle gift memberships

Why not give the cyclists in your life the gift of a Camcycle membership?

Our individual and household gift memberships cover the first year's membership subscription and include our usual range of benefits. When you purchase a gift membership, we will send you the welcome pack including magazines, maps, information about cycling, four of our greetings cards, a Camcycle sticker and a voucher with activation instructions for you to wrap and put under the tree.

Our greetings cards are also available for sale at Rutland Cycling (Grand Arcade and Station Stores), Outspoken Bike Depot (140 Cowley Road) and Al Amin (Mill Road). We will also be selling them at our AGM and we are hoping to set up online sales. If you would like to stock our greetings cards then please get in touch.

All welcome!

Seasonal Social

Monday 18 December, 6:30 pm

We've worked hard this year and now it's time to celebrate a big year of Campaigning.

Join us at The Castle Inn, 38 Castle Street, Cambridge. We will have the rooms upstairs. Food and/or drinks can be ordered at the bar.

All welcome to join us at any time of the evening.

Can you volunteer at our AGM or the Mill Road Winter Fair?

AGM Tuesday, 5 December: We need people who can help to sell our greeting cards, prepare the tea and coffee and/or set up the room for the AGM.

Winter Fair Saturday, 2 December: Can you help at our stall bike? The Winter Fair is one of our best events and it's always nice to have new people join in.

Please reply to this email if you can help.
