Camcycle is disappointed to hear of a Judicial Review application.
The Chisholm Trail and the Abbey-Chesterton Bridge are something for which we and our members have been pushing for nearly twenty years. The trail has been in the Local Plan since 2006. At every stage of consultation by the Council, there has been a clear majority of public support.
The County Council has in our view worked very hard to address conservation and ecology concerns, making many changes to resolve objections over the last two years. The decision to proceed with the Bridge has been taken democratically and legitimately. We will therefore be interested to see on what specific grounds the Judicial Review is based. The law rightly provides a means to challenge cases of malpractice but we have not seen any evidence to this effect.
The project has clear public majority support. We support the Council who have worked hard to plan this scheme and its construction in a way that will cause minimal disruption to the area while providing maximum benefits for the many people who will use the trail.
