Rebooting the City Deal
Hosted by Smarter Cambridge Transport, “Rebooting the City Deal” is tonight (Friday 14th) at 7.30pm in the Lee Hall at Wolfson College. Come along to hear fresh ideas for the City Deal and discuss how to implement them. You’ll be able to hear from speakers including:
- Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge
- Julian Huppert, former MP for Cambridge
- Rachel Aldred, Reader in Transport at the University of Westminster
- February Phillips, architect and public-realm designer at 5th Studio
- Colin Harris, Cambridge Connect
- Edward Leigh, Smarter Cambridge Transport
Cycle parking is available either side of the college driveway.
Tavistock Place consultation
Would you like to see the popular trial of segregated cycles lanes on Camden’s Tavistock and Torrington Places made permanent? This scheme is under threat from taxi drivers determined to see the scheme ripped out. This route is used by many Cambridge residents who also cycle in London and it is important that we respond to the consultation.
London Cycling Campaign have provided a good summary of the situation with suggestions for instructions for responding to the consultation. http://lcc.org.uk/articles/take-action-save-tavistock-place-in-less-than-a-minute
Consultation closes 21 October.
City Deal Peak Time Congestion Control Points
You can read our response to the City Deal where we expressed our general support for congestion-reducing measures be they congestion control points or other solutions determined in response to the consultation.
Don't forget these consultations:
Mitcham's Corner Redevelopment (Closes 17 October)
Tavistock Place (London) cycle lanes (Closes 21 October)
Time for your contributions to 'Camcycle'
Following the success of our cycle lights special, for the forthcoming edition of 'Camcycle' we're seeking our members' views on the best (and worst) cycling jackets. There is now a certain chill in the air and your advice on how to stay warm is welcome. Please send your responses to this email.
Is there a cycling issue that is bothering you or is there something you wish to celebrate? Please write about it for our newsletter.
Newsletter copy deadline: 30th October
Space for Cycling Roadshow visits Cambridge
On 22 October Cambridge will host the Space for Cycling Roadshow.
Campaigners from around the region will visit Cambridge to learn about Cycling UK's Space for Cycling Campaign and to learn from Camcycle and Cambridge. The session will begin with a panel discussion with MP Daniel Zeichner and Julian Huppert. The workshop will be at the Ross Street Community Centre from 10am.
Please ensure you register your interest if you plan to attend.
We welcome volunteers to join us at our stall at the Coop event this Saturday at the Chesterton Road Coop store. Please email if you would like to help.
We've seen some great updates to our newsletter over the last few months, but unfortunately one of our layout volunteers is leaving Cambridge. We are now looking for a new volunteer to help with the newsletter layout for every second edition (3 per year). Do you have the skills to help?
We are also seeking volunteers to help with the tea & coffee set up for the AGM. Please get in touch if you can help.
We have now received funding for the 2017 Reach Ride. Would you like to be a part of the planning committee for our most famous annual event? Please get in touch or join the Reach Ride discussion on Cyclescape.
