We have just submitted our response to South Cambridgeshire District Council’s consultation on the future expansion of Cambourne. Here are our main points:
- The plans assume a maximum cycling journey distance of 5km — less than the current average cycling distance to work in Cambridgeshire of 5.5 km.
- The walking and cycling routes within Cambourne are of low quality — they are not direct, and they mix pedestrians and cyclists on shared paths.
- Cycling routes outside Cambourne are either narrow and immediately adjacent to main roads, or else are too poorly surfaced for all-year use.
- It is inappropriate to route the spine road through the community area.
