Cambridgeshire County Council is planning to make some changes to the junction of Gilbert Road and Milton Road, with the aim of improving cycling safety—their proposal is here. Here are our views:
- We strongly support the removal of the dedicated left and right turn lanes into Gilbert Road from Milton Road.
- We suggest that the on-road cycle lane is continued southbound through the junction (like the northbound cycle lane on Hills Road at the junction with Station Road)
- We would like all cycle lanes in the vicinity of this junction to be fully excavated and relaid using the same method as on Gilbert Road.
- In the longer term, a continuous segregated cycleway southbound through the junction should be provided, as additional land and money become available
