The Department of Transport has formally approved the trial of 'Advanced Green' signals for bicycles on the Hills Road approach to the Catholic Church junction. This will give people on bicycles a few extra precious seconds of time to safely cross this junction.
This is a first for the UK, and hopefully if the trial is successful something that can be implemented in many other places around Cambridge and also around the rest of the country. This is something that Cambridge Cycling Campaign have been campaigning for a long time.
There will be a 9 metre advanced stop box for bicycles to wait in, and the bicycle traffic lights will turn green about 5 seconds before the motorized vehicle traffic lights turn green.
