The impact of 20mph speed limits in Cambridge has been
disappointing. But Cambridge Cycling Campaign says this is a reason to
try harder, not give up. Cambridge's approach has been somewhat
half-hearted, but we have
urged councillors at several
committees to back measures to make these limits more widespread and more effective.
A well-designed 20mph scheme should do more than reduce average
speeds and the number and severity of road casualties. It should make
our streets pleasanter and less intimidating places where children are
able to walk and cycle more confidently, where noise is less obtrusive
and where people feel more comfortable.
