Upcoming road closures around Cambridge
GCP cross-city cycling project: Green End Road
The new segregated lanes between Milton Road and Nuffield Road continue to take shape and during the weekend of 26-27 January works across Scarsdale Close mean that there will be no vehicular access to this street. There will be access for those on foot (including those pushing cycles) assisted by the contractors on site.
The next stage of this section will be resurfacing the road and new footways and cycleways, which means Green End Road from just north of the Nuffield Road junction up to Milton Road will be closed on a Sunday and then for the next five evenings from 7pm – 6am. This work is currently planned to be undertaken between 17-22 February.
You can find more details on the scheme and closures on the Greater Cambridge Partnership website.
Temporary closure of Ditton Meadows path
Work on another cross-city cycling project, Ditton Lane and links to East Cambridge, means that the Ditton Meadows path between Ditton Lane and the Wadloes path is currently closed for approximately four weeks. Contractors will widen the shared-use path to 3m, take down the old fence and put in new path edgings. The eastern entrance to the path will also be widened to improve visibility at the sharp bend near Ditton Lane.
A diversion route for pedestrians and cyclists is signposted via Howard Road.
Cambridge Half Marathon: Sunday 3 March
The route for the Cambridge Half Marathon is the same as previous years, with several roads closed in and around the city centre. The aim is to maintain access through Midsummer Common at all times, however, there may be periods of time when the route is temporarily closed for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. You can download the full traffic plan for further details.
Development at Cambridge North
Early works have begun on the further development around Cambridge North, where new offices and a hotel will be built. Within the next couple of months, a major cyclist diversion will be put in place which reroutes cyclists accessing the station via the segregated path along Cowley Road. This will be closed to allow utility works from Milton Road down to the station. Cyclists will be redirected along the Busway cycleway from Milton Road. There will continue to be road access for cyclists to the industrial and residential units off Cowley Road (including the Camcycle office), but not beyond this point and the Milton Avenue carriageway will be open to all traffic. Note that there will be a significant increase in construction traffic along Cowley Road and Milton Avenue.
