Roadworks affecting cyclists locally

Most roadworks don’t affect cyclists much but sometimes a road is completely blocked or a river bridge is closed. The alternative can then be a long way round.

This page lists current (), forthcoming () and recently cleared () works that we know about in and around Cambridge which have serious impact on cyclists.

If you know of something not listed here, please let us know.

Hills Road bridge narrow lanes ♦ current

May 2008 - March 2009: Major roadworks on Hills Road bridge mean that there is only a single narrow lane in each direction. At times there ill be only a single lane with traffic lights. Frustrated motorists are overtaking cyclists where it isn't safe. Take extreme care here.

Also, right turns from Brooklands Avenue onto the bridge, and from Hills Road into Cherry Hinton Road have been banned during the road works. Use Rathmore Road to work round the Cherry Hinton Road ban, and either walk across or use Bateman Street as an alternative to Brooklands Avenue to avoid that turn ban.

Over to Longstanton road now re-opened ♦ cleared

August 2008: The road between Over and Longstanton has re-opened to all traffic at Windmill Bridge, after the bridge was reconstructed to accommodate the Bus Guideway underneath.
