The Newsletter and Distribution
The bi-monthly Cambridge Cycling Campaign Newsletter is in full colour. We aim to print 20 pages, but it sometimes contains 12, 16, 24 or even 28 pages. We aim to produce it to a high standard, with many photographs and illustrations.
We currently print 800 copies of each newsletter, of which around half go to subscriber households. The remaining copies go to people we work with (on Steering Groups etc) or people we wish to inform or influence (local council staff etc).
The Electronic version is in colour (in HTML, which does not contain the commercial ads, and PDF which usually does), and is read by people all over the world.
Members' Small Ads
Members of Cambridge Cycling Campaign are welcome to place cycling-related Small Ads in our newsletter for free, as part of our service.
Please use the small adverts submission form to submit your advert.
Commercial Adverts
To reduce the cost of producing the newsletter, we offer space for commercial advertisements.
Rates are currently:
- £200 per A4 page
- £100 per 1/2 page landscape: 129mm x 185mm or portrait 262mm x 90.5mm
- £ 50 per 1/4 page 129mm x 90.5mm
- £ 25 per 1/8 page 62.5mm x 90.5mm
(Dimensions as height x width.)
These sizes are relative to the paper so include standard margins: your advert will be aligned to the columns of the page and therefore be a little smaller than the paper size. Full page adverts need not carry the running heads etc so can utilise the full page but the printing process does not allow for a full bleed: we need 5mm minimum of white around the edge.
These prices assume that we are supplied with copy ready for use (see Supplying the Copy below).
We reserve the right to charge an extra fee, if we find ourselves spending more than half an hour to get an individual advert ready for inclusion.
Note that as a matter of policy we do not carry adverts for legal representation related to injury.
Supplying the Copy
The deadline for the forthcoming newsletter is always listed in our Diary page.
Copy should be posted to one of the addresses below, or e-mailed to our newsletter editor at our main e-mail address. If large (> 2MB) we can provide you with the address of a website where you can upload it, or you could share it with us through Dropbox or similar.
Ideally advertisers supplying their own artwork should provide a PDF file at the correct size. Images in the file should be at least 300dpi and any fonts used should be embedded. Ideally it will be in CMYK colour - if not, it will be converted for printing. (If your software gives you the choice, please use a "Coated FOGRA 27 ISO 12647-2:2004" colour profile.)
Other File Formats
TIFF, PostScript, PDF or EPS files are best, but we're pretty familiar with converting from most formats to most formats. The overriding consideration is that images are high enough resolution - 300dpi for the size at which it will be used on the printed page.
For other types of file, or hand drawn illustrations, it may be easiest simply to give us a paper copy and let us scan it.
Printed Copy
We also have the ability to scan camera-ready copy (e.g. laser printer or bromide), to convert to TIFF at a suitable resolution.
Conditions
We reserve the right to refuse adverts, for example, if we feel they are not in the spirit of the Aims of the Campaign, or for reasons of lack of space or time.
Inserts
We sometimes include leaflets and brochures from other organisations in our mailings to members.
For not-for-profit organisations, whose aims are consistent with our aims, we often do this free of charge.
However, commercial organisations wishing to take advantage of this service are charged £40 per insert to contribute to the time and postage costs involved.
As with adverts, we reserve the right to refuse inserts, for example, if we feel they are not in the spirit of the Aims of the Campaign, or for reasons of lack of space or time.
