A bike ride between Cambridge and Babraham. Sign from Babraham Farms making it clear that this track off the bridleway is not for horses or bikes.
Right turning riders are asked to turn left on to the pavement and use the pedestrian crossing, but a full advanced stop line is provided. The ahead only arrow on the traffic lights has a bus exception. It seems that all this amounts to a ... [more]
My wheelchair-user friend can't see why a new ramp is needed at Cambridge station - but at least cyclists have now stopped locking bikes to it. Why does it need railings at all?
My wheelchair-user friend can't see why a new ramp is needed at Cambridge station - but at least cyclists have now stopped locking bikes to it. Why does it need railings at all?
A message sticky-taped to a lamp-post reads: "Please don't park your bike here. It obstructs access to the road for other bikes buggies & bins. Thank You."
Night-time closure of this useful cut through to a residential area. Sign reads: NO ACCESS TO GAINSBOROUGH CLOSE AFTER 8PM
No Entry Except Guided Buses on the busway - cyclists have to lose the shared-use path to the right (decorated with lots of signs banning cycle parking).
See video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHeAk4MT1Io These lights are a potential accident blackspot. Luckily they are temporary. I go through my light when it changes and head off up the West Cambridge Cyclepath. A cyclist with a ... [more]
Closed until 7th August. To get off this track requires going back a mile to Long Road. We knew this before exploring down here, but it has caught many people out!
Parking suspension for resurfacing on June 24 - yet half the work has been done by June 20. And other roads in Cambridge (the ones used by buses and heavy vehicles) need the work far more.
Waiting for the unveiling of the new No Entry Except Cycles sign (at rear) - there's a new 20mph sign, but still no 'except cycles' sign on the Left Turn Only sign.
For cyclists the distance to Orchard Park, Kings Hedges, Regional College, Chesterton, Abbey, Arbury Road could be reduced and moved away from the 40 mph road. See Ring Fort Path idea http://iitm.be/OrchardPath
This rather narrow path is a very valuable access route to/from Cherry Hinton High Street. I've noticed it has not appeared on recent editions of the Cambridge City Cycle map.
St. John's College REGISTERED CYCLES ONLY Your cycle is left here entirely at your own risk. St. John's College accepts no responsibility or liability whatsoever for your cycle or property left within the College. The College retains ... [more]
Only left turn except cyclists. So what are cyclists "excepted" from...? Good test for the many language students on bikes in Cambridge.
Google Translate attempted to translate the Latin and produced "there were two of the wheel here left to extinguish"; I couldn't translate the Greek. Signage further down Portugal Place in a similar style and typeface speaks of bicycles bei ... [more]
NCN51 sign. Not clear whether cyclists are supposed to be on the road or on the footpath, but path soon becomes very narrow - hardly wide enough for a pedestrian.
Cycling a sensible distance away from car doors. Note also the no left turn except cycles sign.
Sign, sponsored by Cambridge Leisure and the Constabulary reads... Thinking of Stealing a bike? CCTV targets Cycle Crime in this area DON'T TAKE A BIKE THAT'S NOT YOURS
Not exactly cycle-related but there is a (frequently abused) "school safety zone" in Fowlmere. I wonder how enforceable that 20 mph limit is.
New 'wayfinding' signage in the city - based on designs developed in Bristol in about 2003 - e.g. #10516
Gateway to the ex-Quayside area, Magdalene Street. This sign was replaced as the new central 20 mph limit came into force, and this is the new signage. The 20 mph sign is clear; I'll give them that. The 'no motor vehicles' sign is tiny and ... [more]
Loading restrictions sign for this stretch of Magdalene Street; to go with photo #25078. The sign states "No waiting at any time" and "No loading at any time". (Location approximate.)
Perhaps partly due to nagging on this site, the Botanic Garden has improved the signage of the cycle parking at its old entrance. Good, but proper racks at the new entrance would be better.
New system of street maps now on the streets of Cambridge. The maps are oriented the same way up as the way you are facing - rather having North = up.
The sign here is a bit low, so we have to be careful with our flags here. Reach Fair Reconnaissance ride - 2010
While I was photomapping this sign (which reads "Frogs take care: beware Cyclists" ;-) another (frog-like) CycleStreets developer suddenly appeared in the shot.
"Strictly no left turn for [HGVs]"---I guess this is down to the fact that Histon residents don't want waste-carrying lorries driving through their village, and not the fact that lorries turning left are a statistically high cause of cycle ... [more]
A very discreet cycle sign at the new entry from the Coton cycletrack to the West Cambridge site.
Bike and ride at the M11 (rear) ? The red sign is a hang-over from the previous temporary arrangements (when the bridge was awaiting repair) and is now presumably meant to stop cyclists taking the slip road onto the M11 (left), but it hard ... [more]
Straight Ahead Only arrow at Devonshire Road (some sat nav systems don't know about this).
Campaigners (with David Howarth MP) celebrating the introduction of Except Cycles panels beneath No-Entry signs - due to be implemented soon here on Mawson Road.
Car going the wrong way down Mawson Road after passing the confusing "low flying motorbike" sign, soon to be changed to a no-entry except cycles sign.
The main entrance to the cycle parking at the Newnham Walk Surgery is for pedestrians and wheelchairs only; motorcyclists are told to use the main road entrance, but there's no mention of cyclists (presumably expected to be pedestrians push ... [more]
On the cycleway alongside the guided busway at Orchard Park, there are no visible lights for cyclists and pedestrians at road crossings - just the small signs on the nearside columns.
Totally non-standard signage at Arbury/Orchard Park - I assume it means there's a cycleway to the right, but the whole development should be permeable to cyclists anyway.
The destination signage is covered over with sacking material - but the round sign is not - and implies the route is open.
Lorry weight ban pointing into Sedgwick Street but probably referring to Wetenhall Road
Loading weight ban, possibly facing the wrong way - I think this is supposed to refer to entry into Wetenhall Road.
Current (and presumablly final) version of 'No overtaking cycles' signage on Hills Road bridge
With the removal of the bogus cycle lane sign #16530 "end of route" signs were added on Croft Holme Lane - #17384. On this section cyclists have to navigate to hairneedle bends with many lorries and HGV. The sign was removed in June 2009 ... [more]
After eleven years the "Cycle Lane" sign with no cycle lane was removed in June 2009. For previous images see #8610, #16529, #16531. The sign was the "spot the cycle lane" feature in the Cambridge Cycling Campaign newsletter 17, back in 199 ... [more]
'Car trap' sign at start of the guided busway - let's hope it keeps bikes off too. The bike and maintenance track will be on the right, behind the bus stop - at some point it changes to the other side.
Wellcome Trust Wetlands Nature Reserve, Hinxton - local villagers are welcome to visit and walk - no provision for cycling
Temporary closure of cycle route to building staff accommodation at Addenbrooke's (on a former car park, presumably freed up by the new multi-storey) - let's hope there's plenty of cycle parking.
This is a photo of the plan for the works at the penny ferry carpark which is currently displayed at the site. It shows that the cycling campaign's suggestion of a diagonal route directly between the hailingway and the road has not been ... [more]
Lots of signs at the Green Dragon bridge - but only the round No Motorbikes sign is enforceable.
St Andrews Street - I took this photo to get a photo of the new cycle park sign but it is only just visible to the left.

Beware of Cyclists - warning sign for motorists leaving the new gate at the Perse School, Hills Road. See also image #11211 .
This photograph providesĀ one reason why flying motor cycle signs don't work in Cambridge. This sign is at the entrance to Corona Road, a cul de sac at Mitcham's Corner with no other entrance. It is full of parked cars probably mostly belon ... [more]
