Elizabeth Road / Milton Road roundbout. Shared use pavement signate at Highworth Avenue is confusing.
Good new road environment on the Riverside, but the council hasn't got around to adding Except Cycles plates to the No Through Road signs - even though this is National Cycle Network routes 11 and 51.
Grim sign reads: "This wall chain is for Ginhams & Upper Crust staff only any other cycles will be re-moved" The wall chain seems to be long gone, and so has at least one of the establishments mentioned.
The sign on the lamp-post at the left suggests "Steal a bike!" in big letters. Its only if you go up and read the small print that it makes it clear this is some kind of iffy 'dare you' type crime reduction measure.
Mixed message: "Get off the pavement, except when its convenient for traffic management purposes." #35225 shows the other side of this sign, which invites riders onto the pavement.
Only in Cambridge? A gold coloured frame politely states the case for the privacy of this drainpipe. For more context see #35148. 66 on y' bike A message to our kind, thoughtful and considerate customers. Please do not under any ci ... [more]
Curious sign that reads: STAFF & VISITOR BICYCLES ONLY points to a dire need for much more cycle parking for all. The people being excluded by this sign are the schoolchildren at the adjacent school. Appalling!
Annoying sign persecuting young would-be cyclists, where there's no similar ban on driving. See #33344. Also what does it mean to stride it? Presumably remain on the saddle and whisk along? And the middle bit is a 'No Cycling' sign, but ... [more]
The sign on this gate (see close-up in #33345) reads: STRIDE IT... DON'T RIDE IT! But curiously drivers of motor vehicles are not requested to get out and push.
No Entry except for authorised vehicles - how many cyclists will know they are authorised? (The Cambridge Gateway - not yet shown on OpenCycleMap)

I have no idea why they bothered with a few metres of footway on the other side of the cycleway, let alone the pointless Cyclists Dismount signage.
Surely this sign is the wrong way around? And why the obsession with making cyclists dismount to cross a lightly used busway anyway?
This notice has been put up along the corridor of the cycle park leading to the stairs and lifts where people leave their bikes if the racks are full. Clearly, more racks are needed.
This is a Notice of Change of Right of Way from a footpath to restricted byway issued by South Cambridge District Council for the route from here to Sawston. It asks for any objections to be raised by 25th May 2011, or about 2 months ago. ... [more]
The NO PEDESTRIANS sign here is right next to the footway that runs to the left of the crash barrier. Technically speaking a pedestrian using that path to cross the mouth of the on-ramp to the motorway is in violation of that signage. Surel ... [more]
Strange to have the End of Cycle Route sign before the bridge - are cyclists meant to dismount? Why are these signs needed anyway?
Patronizing sign whose aim seems to be avoidance of liability if a cyclist jolts their bike because there is a bit of a ramp ahead. Otherwise this is an excellent bridge.
Artistic response to finger wagging signage ! The top sign spells out in detail some archaic by-law that 'CYCLES MUST ONLY USE THE SPACES PROVIDED' blah blah blah. The main poster (which is now quite old and faded) announces CYCLE REMOVA ... [more]
Nonsense - motor vehicles aren't allowed in this direction anyway, whereas the street is in fact open as usual for cycling.
Very well hidden sign to the cycle store at Stow Court - Stow cum Quy - presumably intended for staff, not visitors.
"Cycles causing an obstruction to vehicle parking spaces will be removed and destroyed without warning under Rail Byelaws." I'm used to seeing mean spirited and unfriendly anti-cyclist signage at the railway station. But this sign indica ... [more]
You can't see the context here, but were you in a position to obey this sign, you would have been cycling the wrong way up the road.
Along with hoodies, alcohol, and dogs - bicycles are prohibited from being taken into this surgery! I can't see any obvious cycle parking, except perhaps the railings for this access ramp.
There should be some indication that this road leads to the new Whittlesford to Sawston cycle path.
The sign in #28182 says No Through Route, this says dead end except for access to hospitals - both should make it clear that this is a through route for cyclists.
Nonsense! It's a through route for cycles (even if they have to detour briefly onto the roadway at the moment).
The best 20 mph sign in Cambridge. The Council(s) wasted money (I'll find a quote) installing this sign which (a) faces the wrong way up Sidney Street---a one-way street and (b) even if pedal cycles were allowed to contraflow down Sidney St ... [more]
Advisory 'Cyclist Dismount' signs imposed by the county council's lawyers - if cyclists really did dismount it would grind to a halt in the rush hour, but weekend dog-walkers don't see it this way.

I noticed these new signs have appeared along these railings - reading: NO BICYCLES (may be removed at owner's expense) Rather than providing adequate cycle parking for their pupils this Sixth Form college is discouraging cycling and ... [more]
The Catholic parish is getting more anti-cycling - having putting up a wicker screen to stop people locking their bikes to the outside of the railings, they've now banned cycling inside.
No cycling signs on both sides of the road combine with onstreet mandatory cycle lanes. Very confusing. (Location is only approximate).

As indicated by this new sign (indeed, a rather illiterate sign, which seems to be missing either a - or a ; symbol after the first line) Downing College seem to have decided that people can't cycle in the college area that leads to the cyc ... [more]
I really shouldn't let this get to me, but it does: The 'Cyclists Dismount' signs that litter this area show that cyclists were not accommodated when this complex was built, but on the other hand they did find space to put a massive unde ... [more]
Annoying to see these one-way systems on this university site when two-way cycling could easily be accommodated. http://cambridge.cyclestreets.net/galleries/41/
'End of cycle route' sign - no mention that it continues on the far side of the road. No joined-up thinking at Cambs County Council.
One of the 'no entry' bollards on Petty Cury. The diameter of this traffic sign was little over 3 inches; the minimum diameter authorised by the TSRGD is 270 mm, about 10 1/2 inches. Might just send a letter to the Council 'bout this.
I'm guessing the red sign is there just in case people unfamiliar with UK traffic regulations wander onto the motorway (left), but the sign is incorrect anyway. It's a shared-use path for both cycles and pedestrians, yet the sign says 'peda ... [more]
Ridiculous and annoying - the entrance to Anglia Ruskin permits driving, but bans cycling. Rather than saying "Welcome" this shabby entrance effectively says to its students "Now look here, we're not going to tolerate your pesky bicyclin ... [more]
'Cycling Prohibited' - isn't it time this was removed? and a little minor resurfacing wouldn't hurt either.
The mileage shown here: 19 is out of sync with the other distances we've seen on the signs between Cambridge and St Ives. This distance should be 14 miles. Photos along the route of the Busway between Oakington and St Ives.
The sticker on the back of this car reads... Hows my driving? Tel: 0800 F*CKU So disappointing to see this attitude from a parent (or guardian) waiting to pick up their child from the school. I suppose we should be grateful that alth ... [more]
The Public Bridleway sign here points along the Busway maintenance track to... St. Ives 11 (miles) and Impingham (ooops ... should be Impington) 1
(I know it's more walking than cycling, but...) Can you spot the sign? It's only half there as well, so it was even more difficult to find; found it eventually.
A very small 'end of 20 zone' sign; the TSRGD does allow small sizes of certain signs, but this one is very inconspicuous to most. This, to me, sends the message that the county doesn't really care about the zones they pretend to enforce.
This gate is often being left unlocked, meaning that larger vehicles can get through in contravention of the width restriction.
Black then Red surfaces, yet the sign says dismount. I think these signs need turning around!
This isn't a new bus lane any more is it? So the sign should come down. The City Council apparantly has a budget specifically to take down signs that are not any use any more. Photo #5830 shows this sign in 2004
What 'problem' do these people think they're solving by banning cycles during the Folk Festival? A few bent blades of grass? See http://www.cyclestreets.net/location/13656/ for more anticyclist behaviour by the Catholic church in Cambridge.

Of course the road is open to cyclists and pedestrians etc - but you wouldn't expect highway engineers to think about that.
The roads on the Addenbrooke's site are presumably not public highways - which is why they can get away with rubbish signage like this, implying there's room for two lanes of traffic. The signs are also too far from the end of the contraflo ... [more]

Road closure notice for 2009 Reach Fair - exemption for cyclists should be spelled out
The sign at the top right indicates a cycle lane towards Croft Holms Lane. Croft Holme Lane is a rather intimidating stretch of road for cyclists and it has no cycle lane. See also #8610, #16529, #16531. The sign was the "spot the cycle lan ... [more]
Road closed by sewer collapse on Pembroke Street - but of course there's no reason to divert cyclists away from Trumpington Road (and why is that Grand Arcade construction traffic sign still there?)
Not again! What is this phobia about cycling? (Guided bus construction works east of Trumpington)

Milton Road, Cambridge. Faded cycle lane markings on the road, and mis-aligned and dilapidated sign announcing the start of the on-road cycle lane.
This warning notice hasn't had much effect, as there's a huge demand for cycle parking and of course priority in the courtyard is alas given to cars - see following two photos.
The No Entry sign needs turning - and shouldn't there be some sign indicating cycles can pass to the left?
Incorrect One Way sign on New Street - the street is plugged at the Harvest Way Junction with a cycle bypass.
