Elizabeth Road / Milton Road roundbout. Shared use pavement signate at Highworth Avenue is confusing.
Deprived of their own phasing of the lights at these roadworks, cyclists have to compete for space with emerging buses.
Good new road environment on the Riverside, but the council hasn't got around to adding Except Cycles plates to the No Through Road signs - even though this is National Cycle Network routes 11 and 51.
Rush hour in Cambridge during the Easter holidays. Series of pictures of everyday cyclists taken on a Wednesday morning in April between 8:40 am and 9:10 am, see also #36585. Here a pointless Cyclists Dismount sign on a national cycle netwo ... [more]
Grim sign reads: "This wall chain is for Ginhams & Upper Crust staff only any other cycles will be re-moved" The wall chain seems to be long gone, and so has at least one of the establishments mentioned.
Does your commute compute? Train 21p vs car 56p per mile. Taken from Romsey community garden, Cambridge. Small print: 1800cc petrol car, 12,000 miles pa. Greater Anglia ave Std mthly/longer season ticket prices.
The sign on the lamp-post at the left suggests "Steal a bike!" in big letters. Its only if you go up and read the small print that it makes it clear this is some kind of iffy 'dare you' type crime reduction measure.
A bike ride between Cambridge and Babraham. Sign from Babraham Farms making it clear that this track off the bridleway is not for horses or bikes.
Mixed message: "Get off the pavement, except when its convenient for traffic management purposes." #35225 shows the other side of this sign, which invites riders onto the pavement.
Right turning riders are asked to turn left on to the pavement and use the pedestrian crossing, but a full advanced stop line is provided. The ahead only arrow on the traffic lights has a bus exception. It seems that all this amounts to a ... [more]

My wheelchair-user friend can't see why a new ramp is needed at Cambridge station - but at least cyclists have now stopped locking bikes to it. Why does it need railings at all?

A message sticky-taped to a lamp-post reads: "Please don't park your bike here. It obstructs access to the road for other bikes buggies & bins. Thank You."
Curious sign that reads: STAFF & VISITOR BICYCLES ONLY points to a dire need for much more cycle parking for all. The people being excluded by this sign are the schoolchildren at the adjacent school. Appalling!
Annoying sign persecuting young would-be cyclists, where there's no similar ban on driving. See #33344. Also what does it mean to stride it? Presumably remain on the saddle and whisk along? And the middle bit is a 'No Cycling' sign, but ... [more]
The sign on this gate (see close-up in #33345) reads: STRIDE IT... DON'T RIDE IT! But curiously drivers of motor vehicles are not requested to get out and push.
Night-time closure of this useful cut through to a residential area. Sign reads: NO ACCESS TO GAINSBOROUGH CLOSE AFTER 8PM
No Entry except for authorised vehicles - how many cyclists will know they are authorised? (The Cambridge Gateway - not yet shown on OpenCycleMap)

I have no idea why they bothered with a few metres of footway on the other side of the cycleway, let alone the pointless Cyclists Dismount signage.
Surely this sign is the wrong way around? And why the obsession with making cyclists dismount to cross a lightly used busway anyway?
No Entry Except Guided Buses on the busway - cyclists have to lose the shared-use path to the right (decorated with lots of signs banning cycle parking).
This notice has been put up along the corridor of the cycle park leading to the stairs and lifts where people leave their bikes if the racks are full. Clearly, more racks are needed.
This is a Notice of Change of Right of Way from a footpath to restricted byway issued by South Cambridge District Council for the route from here to Sawston. It asks for any objections to be raised by 25th May 2011, or about 2 months ago. ... [more]
See video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHeAk4MT1Io These lights are a potential accident blackspot. Luckily they are temporary. I go through my light when it changes and head off up the West Cambridge Cyclepath. A cyclist with a ... [more]
The NO PEDESTRIANS sign here is right next to the footway that runs to the left of the crash barrier. Technically speaking a pedestrian using that path to cross the mouth of the on-ramp to the motorway is in violation of that signage. Surel ... [more]
Closed until 7th August. To get off this track requires going back a mile to Long Road. We knew this before exploring down here, but it has caught many people out!
National Celebration of Cycling at Burwash Manor - the free energy drink was quite nice.

Parking suspension for resurfacing on June 24 - yet half the work has been done by June 20. And other roads in Cambridge (the ones used by buses and heavy vehicles) need the work far more.
Jim Chisholm, John Grimshaw, Councillor Nichola Harrison and the new No Entry Except Cycles sign.
John Grimshaw unveiling the new No Entry Except Cycles sign on the Covent Garden contraflow.
John Grimshaw and Councillor Nichola Harrison speaking at the unveiling of the No Entry Except Cycles sign.
Waiting for the unveiling of the new No Entry Except Cycles sign (at rear) - there's a new 20mph sign, but still no 'except cycles' sign on the Left Turn Only sign.
Strange to have the End of Cycle Route sign before the bridge - are cyclists meant to dismount? Why are these signs needed anyway?
For cyclists the distance to Orchard Park, Kings Hedges, Regional College, Chesterton, Abbey, Arbury Road could be reduced and moved away from the 40 mph road. See Ring Fort Path idea http://iitm.be/OrchardPath
We used these arrows stuck to the cycleway to warn riders of the missing drain cover ahead. See #30482
One of our rather hard to see arrows pointing upwards on the lamppost here to reassure riders that straight on is the way to Reach Fair.
Patronizing sign whose aim seems to be avoidance of liability if a cyclist jolts their bike because there is a bit of a ramp ahead. Otherwise this is an excellent bridge.
Artistic response to finger wagging signage ! The top sign spells out in detail some archaic by-law that 'CYCLES MUST ONLY USE THE SPACES PROVIDED' blah blah blah. The main poster (which is now quite old and faded) announces CYCLE REMOVA ... [more]
Rather smart advertising for the Cambridge News at the Grand Arcade Cycle Park. But note the new sign on the right which is a plea to dismount.
Temporary signs that we'll need to put up in Beche Road and Priory Road for the Reach Fair ride because of the roadworks shown at #28344 http://www.camcycle.org.uk/events/rides/ http://twitter.com/#search?q=ReachRide
I like this use of road-markings to make cars entering/exiting this private driveway aware of the cycle-path.
I think its really helpful to have such a detailed map of the ongoing works at this location - despite the grafiti in the 'comments section' of this sign. The big red arc next to the river is for pedestrians only, cyclists approaching fr ... [more]
Nonsense - motor vehicles aren't allowed in this direction anyway, whereas the street is in fact open as usual for cycling.
Very well hidden sign to the cycle store at Stow Court - Stow cum Quy - presumably intended for staff, not visitors.
"Cyclists please dismount" signs at roadworks on Riverside, Cambridge. Unlike the "dismount" sign in image #29809 taken earlier on the same day (1st April), this sign does have a legal backing (though it's the very badly-poorly worded Highw ... [more]
Cyclists are being asked to dismount (in both directions) on St Andrews Street, Cambridge---owing to what looks like a small amount of roadworks, but local news has suggested that central Cambridge will soon be being ripped-up to repair (I ... [more]
