Mandatory Cycle Lane on East Road. Car parking on lay-by invades MCL with rear wheel right on top of the bicycle painted on the floor. This is the part where bicycle remerge onto the road from the pavement. The obstructing car (number plate ... [more]
East Road. Cyclists leaving the subway cycleway bypass round the Newmarket Rd roundabout have to stear around street furniture. This rainy day Mr Mondeo took care of blocking the dropped kerb, despite of the big bicycle painted right in fro ... [more]
Hand over all your carrots if you want to get through! (The National Trust's Konig ponies are supposed to be wild, but they're getting street-wise.)
Dismounting on a cycleway. For drivers this is the equivalent of having to get out of your car and push! This obstruction badly lets down the Cambridge South East Cycle Route - which was built in the early 1990s as an alternative the the b ... [more]
Roadworks sign - was anyone aware that this is a contraflow cycle lane, so cyclists are now forced into the path of oncoming taxis from the station, SUVs from St Mary's school etc ?
Garbage collection - there's barely enough room to get past this city council refuse vehicle.
Awkward pram-handles removed after complaints over several years by the Campaign - success! This junction point is now much easier to pass for both cyclists and walkers. Compare with before: #9023
Over-grown bypass lane on 60mph section of road! The Fulbourn 30mph zone should be extended beyond the pinch-point, and the bypass lane kept clear. Reported to County Council.
The dis-used bus stop is too narrow, cars park on the pavement with one side and obstruct the mandatory cycle lane on the other. This picture was taken on day two after Ian Greasley forwarded message to the "Local Authority Parking Enforcem ... [more]
Interesting and perhaps clever use of bollards to slow down cyclists at a busy entrance to the Sedgwick Site from West Road. You can still cycle through but have to wiggle, which slows you down enough, but not too much to be a pain. But the ... [more]
Milton Rd southbound, corner with Union Lane. (For Taxi PJ55 YLY, plate no. 204 see also #15858 and #15964)
Cyclists forced into the path of traffic by this sign. It reads "Coronation Street Closed".
Pram arms on the cycleway (note the cycle symbol on the ground and the directional signage in the distance.)
Pram arms on bollards, and then a fence. They really don't want you to get past here, and the graffiti says "Time to die".
Provide a suitable way for cyclists to get onto the busway cycle track. The bridleway just to the North is a death trap with a base of loose cinders intermixed with sharp wires and other rubbish, designed to give punctures.
A bike ride between Cambridge and Babraham. This gate and narrow gap next to it would be hard to see at night. This path is a bit rough and not suitable for small wheeled bikes.
This photo shows the channel that has been added to the station footbridge (which is still under construction). Rather than a channel, it seems to be just an angle girder, and is directly underneath the handrail, as shown in #35031. It l ... [more]
The hedgerows have been chopped back, but the thorns left on the cyclepath managed to puncture Schwalbe Marathon ('puncture proof') tyres... I know that clippings aren't normally dalt with, but this is the second time on the same stretch t ... [more]
Barriers temporarily opened here during the Mill Road Winter Fair. For the rest of the year, whilst a barrier is needed to stop through-traffic, this photo shows how much easier cycling through here would be if the gate were replaced wit ... [more]
The issue is in the bus/cycle lane westbound on Newmarket Road, at the junction with Ditton Lane. It's sort-of an obstruction. The traffic lights for the bus/cycle lane default to red unless there's a bus with a transponder coming. However, ... [more]
If I remember well, there's two barriers near tesco that make almost impossible to pass with a bike trailer and my kids on it.
The metal bollards at this location (and others along the cycle path following guided busway) can't be seen in the dark, even with bike lights, as the bollards have no reflectors. Very dangerous hazard, suggest reflectors be mounted on the ... [more]
My mother has been a keen cyclist for many decades and has now begun to ride a trike. She finally steeled herself to ride into town on Saturday only to find that the speed bumps/ bollards on Grange road are an obstacle for her. She is unabl ... [more]
No sign yet of the promised cycle wheeling channel on the new staircase at Cambridge Station CBG.
The fence blocking this cycle path has caused a couple of near misses between cyclist and pedestrians.
Thoughtless allowing of a hot potato vendor's larger stall on Parker's Piece. Moving it to the right a few metres would solve the problem
A new barrier has appeared where the cycleway into Cambridge Science Park crosses the guided busway track. This is a very dangerous obstruction as it forces cyclists to execute an awkward and distracting manoeuvre when they should be watchi ... [more]
This gate does open briefly to allow staff and students access to Chesterton Community College. But it seems that local residents prefer it to be kept shut at other times. Its quite a long walk / cycle round.
The positioning of this sign is really annoying, but on the other hand it does force you to slow down as you negotiate this rather narrow and entirely unsatisfactory shared use arrangement.
These new posts obstruct cycling along the Cam , off the surfaced path, between Cambridge and Grantchester . The bridge was paid for by taxpayers money. I think the county council should seek to adopt the cycle and foot paths on the meadow ... [more]
This could easily be an excellent cycle route but I have to choose between mud or gates.
This could be a useful, safe, cycle underpass but I have a choice of getting muddy or wrestling with the gates.
This could be a useful, safe, cycle underpass but I have a choice of getting muddy or wrestling with the gates.
This popular cycle route is obstructed by a gate. While it is useful to slow cyclists here using this gate is awkward.
Why does this new development have all this dreadful caging rather than a direct pedestrian crossing?
Busway maintenance track blocked by maintenance vehicle (how dare they?) - in fact we crept past on the right.
Seemingly pointless gate on this connecting route between Green End road and Gainsborough Close.
The bushes along the path are overgrown for quite a distance, pushing pedestrians and cyclists onto the grass. The footing is less firm, and there could be an accident.
There is a 'no cycling' sign here, which I'd argue belongs to a less enlightened time. This path is wide and quiet. The only possible problem is the blind corner. Perhaps a polished metal plate as a mirror would solve that.
Property management and scaffolding vehicles blocking the contraflow cycle lane yet again.
See video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONG9O1UxpT8 Not so much of a problem to me, but anyone coming the other way is completely stuffed. The temporary roadsigns make no reference to a closed cyclelane in either direction. The only ... [more]
See video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3hiDXyCHBQ There's a lovely route from the town centre back to my place. However, I only do it when I've got time to kill. It's a bit further that the straighter road route, but if that was th ... [more]
See video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkFR3A8bLmE Yet more experiences of Sedgwick Avenue. This time it's a car that must just get ahead. I could see the oncoming traffic ahead as it passed and immediately knew that it was going ... [more]
This is an example of a modern removable bollard, splendidly adorned with two large reflective bands. This one appears to be branded Autopa.
James with some highly reflective bollards outside the junction of Highsett with Hills Road.
Nasty little cycle lane in a bend obstructed by traffic cones and "Diverted traffic" signs.
Overranking by silver Mondeo CE57 WXD (license 47), by silver Peugeot SD57 BFO from Panther taxis and white LT1 AE56 LDX (license 278).
A smoother way through this gap would be good - the cobbles are uneven, and the addition of a disabled parking space has made this worse.
What is going on here? Sloped access for wheelchairs, buggies and bikes (pushed, of course) has vanished.
POTENTIAL PILE UP. There is a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians which runs along Trumpington Road from the Long Road junction to The Leys School. Where the route crosses cars exiting Chaucer Road (opposite Brooklands Ave) is proble ... [more]

"Cyclists Dismount" sign in a contraflow cycle lane at roadworks. See #31317 for the view from the other side. The other side of the road contains fixed buildouts, meaning that it would be difficult to divert the lane around the obstruc ... [more]
"Cyclists Dismount" sign in a contraflow cycle lane at roadworks. Note that this photo is taken from the 'with-flow' side from which cyclists will be approaching on the road and not in the lane so there's nothing for them to dismount for! S ... [more]
Compare with #31074 - the 'offending' Cyclists Dismount sign has gone, but that may just because the location of the work has moved and it's easier to divert pedestrians down the other side.
Contractors using "cyclists dismount" even though the main carriageway is entirely passable. (C.f. #31143 for a subsequent view)
An obstruction is needed !! Today is the second time that I have seen a car try to drive down the cycle lane next to Darwin College when it has discovered that it can not go through the rising bollard. This car nearly took out several c ... [more]
The cut-through between Warwick Road and Windsor Road is in desperate need of resurfacing, it is very bumpy and hard to cycle on.
Needlessly badly-placed cone shown in #30312 results in cars going into the cycle lane to turn into Corn Exchange Street

Travelling south towards Cambridge along Cambridge Road, Impington, south of the A14, a deceleration lane (into King's Hedges Road) starts on the left of the on-road cycle lane. This deceleration lane opens too slowly, so that motor traf ... [more]
Gilbert Road at 15:00 today. Bus parked on left hand side, car parked in cycle lane on right hand side. Car was parked for 20 minutes.
The path across Peter's field ends in this narrow obstacle. These narrow posts seem to date from long ago when this junction was a roundabout, they are surely no longer necessary.
These chicanes are now wide enough that it is apparently possible to read your text messages while cycling through them ;-)
Gilbert road Cycle path heading towards Histon Road, blocked at 15:00 Friday 18th March 2011 by 3 parked cars. Maybe having spent all that money on creating no parking and cycle paths we should get the "boys in blue" or some traffic wardens ... [more]
