East Road. Cyclists leaving the subway cycleway bypass round the Newmarket Rd roundabout have to stear around street furniture to the dropped kerb, around illegally parked cars - avoiding collision with cars coming from the roundabout.
Dropped kerb and proper surfacing into Tesco needed, to serve this obvious cut-through. What actually happened was that a big fence was put in instead... see #12581.
Weston doesn't seem to be too impressed by the building permission application process.
Area between "greens gym" and railworks, which is at a different level. The area between the fence and the railswork building looks like an embankment, where it may be difficult to get a cycleway through.
At the southern bridge at Barnwell Junction the Chisholm Trail runs into a wall. Is drilling an archway an option? The northern bridge has one see #37480. For a view south towards Coldhams Lane >> #37476 <<
No more cycling posties in Newnham! Instead a van is parked here by the letter box and the driver and a colleague deliver mail on foot. It's hard to see that this is more economical.
The stairs to the bridge for the new platform at Cambridge Station are about 3.50 m wide, with about 3.10 m clearance. The yellow, L-shape guide rails at about 20 cm from the wall, but so close to the hand rails that they are not suitable f ... [more]
The yellow, L-shape guide rails at about 20 cm from the wall, but so close to the hand rails that they are not suitable for wheeling bikes or luaggage. An alternative layout: #33885 and #33887.

The lifts are too small: about 62" or less than 1.60 m deep and wide. They force users wheeling their luaggage, trolley or bike in to exit backwards. These lifts should be about 1/3 deeper, with an exit on the opposite end, like most lifts ... [more]
The lifts are too short for a bike (about 62" or less than 1.60 m). They also force users wheeling their luaggage, trolley or bike in to exit backwards. These lifts should be about 1/3 deeper, with an exit on the opposite end, like most lif ... [more]
Taxi AK56EPL over-ranking as far back as the bus stop. And driving on the pavement to boot.

Police and/or LAPE left the half overranking taxi and two more overranking taxis arrive.
This is the reaction I had today from the operator of this lorry when I took this photo of him while he was transferring pallets of bricks over the cycle path. The pallets were being lifted off one end of the lorry or trailer and being swun ... [more]
Stow Court, Stow cum Quy - new offices with plenty of car parking and just a small cycle shed hidden at the rear, supposedly for staff use.
Two, possibly three fairground rides (you can argue about the bungee one) when there should only be one with Cambridge on Ice. NB: I've been asked to make clear that this issue was subsequently resolved and two rides removed.
Woman mugged by knife carrying bike thugs http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Home/Woman-mugged-by-knife-carrying-bike-thugs.htm

A new intake of language students, with shiney new hire bikes, and a desperate lack of secure parking.
See #37266 for details of cycle theft problems in Ferry Path. On this occasion, a cut cable lock has been thrown over a garden fence. I witnessed this theft in action, and reported it to the police, but there was no realistic chance that ... [more]

What kind of idiot marks a running route with paint (instead of flour or some other biodegradable powder) ?
Cycling Demonstration Town? Not until obvious line-of-desire routes like this are opened up, with drop kerbs for cyclists, wheelchairs and buggies.
The cycle stands opposite the Arts Theatre have disappeared - prossibly so Jamie Oliver's Italian restaurant can have pavement seating.
Why is it so hard for weekend drivers to see the Left Turn Only sign? (it's not a problem Mondays to Fridays.)
Why does it take so long to get things fixed here?? 3) the lamp pole was replaced a few weeks after a hit-and-run car demolished it, but months later there's still no power.
New bus stop and also guided bus stop near Shire Hall. This picture indicates how the line of the cycle lane makes a sudden kink around the build out. This cycle lane ought to be straightened since the road is clearly wide enough.
Wysing Arts Centre, Bourn - disabled ramps etc, award-winning architecture, but no cycle facilities.
Cars trying to escape congestion on Park Street by going through bollard to New Park Street. The bollard is down due to work on Thompson's Lane blocking that road. These cars had to come back to Park Street. A temporary no-throu ... [more]
New housing development at the north end of the Riverside cycle bridge - no sign of any cycle parking!
Although the roads are completely free of snow and ice, the cycle path adjacent to it is completely ungritted and extremely dangerous. And this is one of Romsey's busiest cycle routes: the cycle bridge over the railway on Coldham's Lane. ... [more]
Black ice caused several cyclists to fall off. Danger point is on the cyclepath along the river/Midsummer Common, at the footbridge leading to Ferry Cutter Lane, immediately west of the cattlegrid.
Water Street, Chesterton, Cambridge. A driver opts to go into the middle of the road to avoid the effects of the speed cushions. The alternative for drivers wishing to avoid the cushions is to enter the cycle lane.
Water Street, Chesterton, Cambridge. The speed bumps here were replaced by speed cushions. These cusions are ineffective as many cars can drive between them. The Bus in the picture is minimising the effect of the cushions by swerving in ... [more]

Buses get stuck in traffic because of the sheer number of private motor vehicles, most of them containing a single occupant. A good demonstration of why congestion charging is needed.
Milton Road crossing with Arbury Road. No Advanced Stop Line, no cycle lane. Left-turning traffic is given green light while cyclists wait in limbo. Very poor layout, very intimidating. Not "Cycling Demonstration Town" material...
Cars come round this corner quite fast (after all, it is a one way road), but where the picture is taken from is a T-junction where vehicles, including cycles, need to turn right onto this road, across the flow. Better visibility is needed ... [more]
More unfinished infrastructure. Access to these dwellings is across a poorly finished dropped kerb and a patch of mud! Not conducive to cycling for those people already living here.
Drainage problems causing large puddles at the eastern end of the closed section of Riverside.
Regent Street pinch. Vehicles overtake this bus who has stopped to hand over drivers. Cyclists then have to vie with oncoming buses and lorries in what is left of the road width.
Boxed in! The only areas allocated for cycle parking seem to be where it's not possible to have a car parking space, such as behind this tree next to the recycling area. Riders will have to struggle every morning to get these exposed ... [more]

This slip lane from Kings Hedges Road into Northfield Avenue allows motor vehicles to turn left at high speed. The AJC has voted to remove it and return it to verge.
Looking south down Northfield Avenue, just to the south of the junction with Kings Hedges Road. Cyclists are expected to rejoin the road here but the sweeping slip lane into Northfield Avenue means cars are often moving very fast here. Th ... [more]
There used to be so much cycle parking here, on both sides of the road. Why oh why does the council care so little about cycle theft and convenient access? Is it totally in thrall to the developers and the bus companies?
Surely there's room for cycle parking here - if only the council could be bothered to enforce its own cycling parking standards!
Bicycle Rock - where there were 40 odd spaces for cycle parking (see #2597) there is now a rock. I predict this will be used heavily to lean bikes against for parking.

Incorrect road markings on Hills Road mean that buses must enter cycle lane to call at the bus stop
Ludicrous number of lanes: one would be better, and would makee space for a much wider pavement and cycle parking.
Car park lane in the centre should be removed, to make space for on-road cycle lanes, here by Fitzroy Lane.
The roadworks here force all motor traffic onto the oncoming cycle lane, with no traffic control to protect them.
This new 'speed hump' is on a main cycle route to the station, and is well positioned to throw of cyclists making the turn on a wet day.

Tesco chicanes, totally unnecessary. Tesco should be ashamed of themselves. These are arguably not even DDA compliant.
There is a real shortage of cycle parking - and it is apparent that these threatening notices are not enforced.
