Lots of bicycles!

This was in Utrecht, close to the main railway station and by no means the only bike parking available. It is a double decker bike park, being possible to lower the upper mechanism and allowing you to wheel your bike on with ease. The whole ... [more]

'Beware pedestrians' on the contraflow cycle path - parked bikes are probably more of a problem!

Traffic queueing on Radegund Road near the entrance to the school, which has closed its car park, so vehicles have to park on the road to drop off pupils. The problem will probably disappear when the school term ends, but at the moment it i ... [more]

Congestion at the eastern end of Radegund Road with traffic queuing back onto the Perne Road roundabout. The school carpark has been closed so vehicles are parking in Radegund Road to drop off children. With cars parked on both sides it is ... [more]

A plethora of signs at roadworks on Mill Road. See photo #24024 for a close-up and photo #24023 for an earlier sign about the roadworks

The earlier sign #24023 on Mill Road said "Cyclists Access as usual" but at the actual road closure this one says "Cyclists Please Dismount and Use Footpath". In practice the footpath is reasonably wide and only a short stretch of road is c ... [more]

Wow, a cyclist-friendly sign at road works on Mill Road. There's a photo #24024 of the next sign as well.

Cambridge Station - much busier than Audley End and lots and lots of wheeled luggage - and people and bikes.

The recess by the doors in the lifts at Audley End Station measures 12 cm. The main dimension of the lifts is 1.6m x 1.6m. This additional 12 cm means that bikes can actually just fit in the lift by turning their front wheel slightly. ... [more]

Carrying a bike up the stairs - necessary if the lifts are out of action. No gutters or channels have been added to this brand new bridge, which could make this task significantly less strenuous.

Bikes using the lift two at a time - going down.

Bikes go in two at a time in these lifts.

A large piece of luggage and a single bicycle and fit inside the lift.

Two laden bikes will fit into the lifts diagonally at Audley End station.

The bikes at Audley End can comfortably accommodate 1 bike and 1 wheelchair user. We were told that these lifts are turned off from 7pm.

When the lifts are out of action you have to carry your bike up and down the stairs. There are no channels or gutters, and this photo shows how steep the steps are and what a struggle it can be.

Carrying bikes up the stairs - when the lift is out of action, or simply turned off.

Queuing for the lift at Audley End - make sure you keep away from the platform edge.

Squeezing into the lift - three bikes can just fit into the lift - if you weren't friends before, you soon will be.

The head of the queue at the lift at Audley End station.

8 people with bikes queueing to use the lifts at Audley End station. Before I took this photo I had to tell the man at the back of the queue to stand further away from the platform edge.

Cambridge Cycling Campaign field trip to Audley End. Threre were a surprisingly large number of bikes on the train - we met another group of 6 riders who just happened to be going on a 28 mile ride starting at Audley End.
