Quite a few bikes parked at the rear entrance to King's! The proposed cycleway from Silver Street to West Road has to stop here because of this channel and the change from common land to college land - but it would be nice to have a cyclewa ... [more]
Good intentions, but stands at 45 degree to the wall would have given far more capacity (almost no-one uses the space between the stand and the wall).
Cycle stands have reappeared opposite the Arts Theatre, outside the new Jamie's Italian restaurant - but why do they have to be these cheap bolt-down stands which only support the front wheel, rather than proper Sheffield stands? See als ... [more]
Restored these cycle racks are now back! This is what they looked like in 2005: #2191 Then they disappeared when Jamie's Italian restaurant came to town in Jan. 2010: #20479 and in Feb a notice went up threatening removal of bikes: #213 ... [more]
It's interesting how many cyclists turn right here - an asphalt path on the far side of the sign would be helpful.

Route signs for Colchester and Tiptree from the shared path link with Winstree Road (through Woden Avenue).
This useful route between Winstree Road and NCN Route 1 crosses a couple of very quiet roads in this no-through Avenue.
This is a very good and useful pathway linking Winstree Road with NCN Route 1 via a traffic-free route.
The Cunobelin Way cycle path continues the other side of Temple Road. This crossing and others along Cunobelin Way could do with "elephant feet".
The trees alongside Cunobelin Way droop down into the cycle lane (they're worse when in bloom).
Cycle path alongside Cunobelin Way (NCN Route 1), linking with Tumulus Way and Shrub End Road.

Cyclist passing the new gate on Parker's Piece at a pretty awkward angle, having given way to another cyclist.

Pothole right in the middle of the Downing Street/St Andrew's Street junction (also typical Cambridge two-storey bike parking at rear).
All cul de sacs should be permeable on foot and by bike. Make travel by bike easy, painless and quick and there is a greater likelihood that people will cycle rather than driving. Remove all barriers, ensure all crossovers have dropped k ... [more]

Simon on a 1913 tricycle. This trike twice held the record for Land's End to London in the early part of the twentieth century.
The scene greeting visitors to Cambridge on their way from the railway station. An acute lack of secure cycle parking leads to bikes parked insecurely to the wooden railing, with the result of this vandalism.
What happens when there's not enough cycle parking: people park several spaces abreast, and bikes fall over. In this case, this is done to excess. And so bikes end up in the path of passing vehicles, with wheels being flattened.
Pot hole directly in cycle path - remains unfixed despite complaints to council. Cyclists have to swerve into path of traffic to avoid.
This is the location of the start of the Friday Rides. Its on the Stourbridge Common side of Green Dragon Bridge, Cambridge. Zoom the map out to see the local area.
Looking towards Hobson Street from King Street. This is one of the most explicit examples of a cycle route going directly between two No Entry signs. The absence of a "cyclists exception " panel underneath the No Entry signs here co ... [more]
