Double decker cycle parking near a metro station somewhere in Copenhagen. This clever cycle parking really packs the bikes in. The bikes in the bottom row are below the walkway. To get your bike in the upper row, just lift the front wheel o ... [more]
Bikes often fall over when locked to 'Sheffield' style stands. This happens because as the neighbouring bikes are parked and unparked the bike is jostled and the cycle lock works its way down the leg of the stand.
Token cycle parking (I've never seen anything but wheelbenders) in Montevideo's sleek new train station.
Cycle parking in the underpass below the Intendencia Municipal de Montevideo (City Hall), near the main staff entrance.
Cycle (and motor bike) parking near the Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales, Parque Rodó, Montevideo
There's a remarkable amount of cycling in Montevideo, although there's almost no cycle parking. Drivers are pretty mellow (especially compared to Argentina!) and the roads are safe.
People resort to desperate lengths at the station to park their bike securely, because of the shortage of spaces.
Bizarre - a cycle secured only by a plastic handcuff. Presumably single-use as it has to be cut off.
St Mary's Churchyard, which re-opened in May 2008, is the first part of the regeneration of the Elephant and Castle. An underused green space was landscaped, a children's playground was put in and three cycle racks were installed (see #140 ... [more]
Cycle parking at the EXCEL exhibition centre - there's more emphasis on taxis (background) and the DLR, relieved by free shuttles buses to Canning Town station.
On some City roads, cyclists make up 27% of the traffic at peak commuting times. Cycle parking in the Square Mile is in terribly short supply despite new racks being added in 2008. Most of the buildings in Austin Friars have railings round ... [more]
Cycle parking at Longniddry station - the only acccess to the cycle route to Haddington is by these steps and the footbridge.
This post was previously a 'nicking point' - see #12786. The newly fixed signage not only warns potential thieves they might get a criminal record, but acts as a physical barrier to lifting bikes over the top.
New Sheffield stands opposite the new entry to the westbound side of Walton on Thames station
Cycle parking outside Kingston upon Thames station - nice to have it, but it's so close to the wall that only one side is useable. If they were at a slight angle it would help.
There's an increasing amount of cycle parking in Kingston (where the student population is booming) - also across the road to the rear.
Shortage of cycle parking in the area leads to desperate measures by cyclists eager to ensure the security of their vehicle.
The Accordia development (on the former Government Offices site) recently won the RIBA Stirling prize for the best architectural project of the year - there's almost no public cycle parking, but homes do have large garage areas, perhaps on ... [more]
Poor wheelbenders - very disappointing that the effort made by the owners is so unknowingly misdirected. If these kinds of stands were not available for sale, people would have to buy secure ones instead.
It'd be nice to have a dropped kerb here (behind the bike's rear wheel) and a cycle link to Mill Road, avoiding the East Road junction.
If Cambridge University was serious about sustainable travel much of this courtyard at 17 Mill Lane would be used for cycle parking. As it is there are bikes all around the neighbourhood unsecured to any fixed object.
Despite two No Cycle Parking signs here (and more around the courtyard) there is just nowhere else to go. Cambridge University needs to get serious about facilities for cycle commuting.
cycle parking outside Haymarket station - the station is overcrowded and soon to be rebuilt, so let's hope there's a big expansion in cycle parking.
Cycle parking with a view of the Forth Rail Bridge (the cyclist's bike is in fact behind the camera)
Cycle parking at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh - a new entry complex is being built on the opposite side of the garden, which may have more cycle stands.
Temporary extra bike racks installed at Wandlbeury Country Park for Orchard Day, 18th Oct 08.
Odd positioning of cycle rack at the House for an Art-Lover, Glasgow - blocking the path if there any bikes parked there.
more cycle parking failities needed at Parkside Federation Coleridge Campus, Radegund Rd - all racks inside fence are full, so cycles are locked to fences outside
New Rounded-A sheffield style racks being installed on this previous bit of unused land on Gwydir Street.
Lots of cycle parking (wheelbenders, though) at a primary school in St Andrews (it's half-term).
