Simon on a 1913 tricycle. This trike twice held the record for Land's End to London in the early part of the twentieth century.
What happens when there's not enough cycle parking: people park several spaces abreast, and bikes fall over. In this case, this is done to excess. And so bikes end up in the path of passing vehicles, with wheels being flattened.
The scene greeting visitors to Cambridge on their way from the railway station. An acute lack of secure cycle parking leads to bikes parked insecurely to the wooden railing, with the result of this vandalism.

After writing several times to the authorities I still encounter cars obstructing this part pretty much every afternoon I pass Eastroad. The disused bus stop needs re-designing.

East Road, 8 March 2007, 3:25 pm. Number plate N146 KVG, reported to police with reference 423. On this occasion the car was on the double yellow line.
Cars are allowed to park Mon-Sat daytime for 30 min in this lay-by on East Road. This car was reported for invading the MCL to police tel. 08454564564 [#8157] on 1 Mar 2007 at 3:15 pm and at 5.41 pm again.
This is where cars often park invading pavement and the mandatory cycle lane on East Rd (Newmarket Rd roundabout), forcing cyclist into the car lane. This bay was designed as a bus stop, not parking.

Don't try this with a trailerbike. There are a total of five of these barriers, plus five 90 degree bends and a 180 degree bend on the "cycle" bridge over the A1 at Tempsford.
