Gonville Place Toucan crossing.

This new post for the main signal head is positioned right in the center of the cycle track, making for a very aukward manoever. This is complicated further by the presence of pedestrians walking in the cycleway, and by more unnecessary posts and an over-abundance of tactile paving.

Solution - the post should be positioned by the kerb, adjacent to the pedestrian railing, where it does not interfere with turning manoevres (see photo of Perne Rd crossing for comparison). A cranked pole may be used to maintain carriageway clearance and the vehicle stop line may need to be moved back - widening the crossing (beneficial).

The crossing indicators shown are turned away from approaching cyclists, who cannot see them. Motorists, approaching from the east on the other hand have a clear view of the crossing indicators and may be encouraged to harass people on the crossing if they see the crossing indicators turn red (the pedestrian green phase is very short on this type of crossing but traffic is held at red until the crossing is clear).

Nearside indicators (Puffin style) only at this crossing. Previously there were nearside and farside indicators, and this pole did not exist.

The sharp turn after crossing Gonville Place toucan crossing. As shown, many cyclists cannot make the sharp turn without straying onto the opposite side of the 2-way cycle path. This is definitely worse than the old crossing as 1. the chang ... [more]

The new Parkers Piece side approach to the Gonville Place Toucan. Cluttered with poles. Can't see the crossing indicators (nearside only) which are hidden from view on approach.

Totally unnecessary use of a temporary 'cyclists dismount' sign at the new Gonville Crossing while under construction. No motorist would withstand such nonsense.

All bollards gone at this crossing, which has reverted to a 'parallel crossing'. Note the no-right turn which is there to stop cyclists turning into pedestrians who are using the crossing to the right, right?
