I think this is meant to be National Cycle Route 6 (bypassing Ambleside) - however it's only signed as a route to Ambleside, even though bikes have to be wheeled for a quarter-mile or so.
21 metres
Short section of shared-use path and foot bridge avoiding the narrow Clappersgate road bridge, Ambleside - it's not very cycle-friendly, as there's a gate at the other end.
27 metres
Underloughrigg is closed to motor vehicles (except for access to B&Bs) north of Miller Bridge, providing an ideal bypass of Ambleside for National Cycle Route 6.
622 metres
Miller Bridge, Ambleside - cycling is not allowed on the footpath ahead, which would be an ideal cycle route into the town centre.
624 metres
Road closure in Ambleside - two cycle stands but no dropped kerbs or any attempt to allow cycles to use this route.
804 metres
Skelghyll Lane, bridleway from Ambleside to Troutbeck - quite a tough push up from Ambleside! (approximate location)
985 metres
No access for cyclists to the Coffin Road, a footpath from north of Ambleside to Rydal and Grasmere that is a wide gravel track throughout.
1315 metres
Scandale Bridge, north of Ambleside, start of the Coffin Road footpath to Rydal and Grasmere - cyclists are not welcome.
1318 metres
North end of Underloughrigg - road closed to motor vehicles (except for access to B&Bs) and an ideal bypass of Ambleside for National Cycle Route 6.
2174 metres
Bridleways on the south side of Rydal Water - National Park signs grudgingly admit that cyclists have the right to use them, with the unspoken sub-text 'but we'd much rather you weren't here at all'.
2462 metres
(approximate location) sudden death of cycle route between Windermere and Ambleside
6080 metres
start of ex-railway route south from Coniston - cycleable, but there's no through route.
9774 metres
'Cycle Rack' (singular) at Kendal Library - ok, ok, there are six more Sheffield stands right outside.
