Cyclists celebrating the lifting of the Cycle Ban in the City Centre of Cambridge.
1 metres
This is where Hobson's Street meets St Andrew's Street. There are no road markings here because it would spoil the look of the college. Many drivers think it is a one-way street and cut this corner into the path of cyclists.

No Motor Vehicles sign facing the wrong way in St Andrews Street, bringing the misunderstood sign into further disrepute.

The small opening here successfully slows cyclists down when entering the newly-cycleable 'pedestrian' zone.

The cycle contraflow marking needs to be extended at least as far as the right-hand-ride of this picture. For this scene in 2000 see #2829.

This small blue sign is the only indication that motorists have that cyclists are permitted to ride in both directions. Note the white cycle line on the right comes to an abrupt halt here, just where it could begin to be most helpful.

A new smooth tarmac surface and double yellow lines .... but nothing to indicate to oncoming motor vehicles including buses and taxis that cycles might be coming the other way.

Variable restriction sign, but at about 18:00. I don't know when these messages actually change, or what else (if anything) the top section of the sign every displays.

Contraflow cycle-lane sign (960.1) in Hobson Street. This is the wrong sign -- since the lane is advisory, there should be no white line down the middle of the sign.
