Chesterton Road Crossing (Hamilton Road)

Construction work to narrow Chesterton Road westwards at traffic lights between Hamilton Road and George Street. The carriageway between the kerbs is 11.2 metres (plus or minus 10cm). The new buildout is a sharp one, jutting out over 1 metre just after the Herbert Street junction. There is then a 1metre drop back to the existing kerb before the junction with George Street and a dropped kerb before reaching the traffic light, at an arrow indicating a left turn).

Finally someone has found a useful application for the new buildout at the "upgraded" Chesterton Crossing. Number plate was removed by the builders who parked it there. Reported to police as incident 106 / 070919.
That is what the builders of the Chesterton Road crossing upgrade think of cycle lane... Vehicles had been there for at least 20 min before van MX05 OLM reported to police as incident 106 / 070919.
New cycle lane: between a wheel and a sharp buildout. The red tarmac is <1.20m. The zigzag is 1.5m in its extremes, but where the pavement juts out the width falls to 1.3m.
Dropped kerb before the Toucans allow cyclists to get onto the pavement to cross at the lights. However, cycling on that pavement past the traffic lights should NOT be encouraged.
A lot of paint and a sharp buildout may achieve some speed reduction with motorists. The visual effect is awful, though the red tarmac can be helpful with turning vehicles.

Zigazg cycle lane between pinchpoints is 1.5 m wide. Reduced width red tarmac at George Street and 1.2 m up to Chesterton Hall Crescent. But cyclists can't do 80 degrees bends...

Red tarmac for a new bit of cycle lane (1.5m specified) on the northern side of Chesterton Rd when passing George Street. The first part with the cycle drawing is the old, 1.2m spec lane between George Street and Chesterton House Crescent.
